By Popular Demand, Almond Beverage Customization is Coming to Starbucks Canada

Starting January 10th, Starbucks® Almond Beverage will be available in more than 1,300 stores across the country as a non-dairy alternative, in addition to Soy Beverage and Coconut Milk Beverage. On My Starbucks Idea, the company’s platform for crowdsourcing customer and barista suggestions, thousands of ideas are submitted and voted on each year and the introduction of Almond Beverage is one of the site’s top customer product requests.

Starbucks® Almond Beverage has a light nutty flavour and was designed to be a great backdrop for espresso and the flavours of our handcrafted beverages. It will be available for use in Starbucks® handcrafted beverages, including hot or iced drinks and Frappuccino® blended beverages.

“We are committed to continued beverage innovation and part of that is listening to our customers,” says Peter Bond, director of food and beverage, Starbucks Canada. “We heard from customers that offering non-dairy alternatives is important to them, so we are excited to introduce our rich, creamy Almond Beverage that complements all of our handcrafted beverages, hot and cold, to Canadian stores.”

Starbucks introduced its first non-dairy milk alternative in 2004 with the launch of Soy Beverage followed by Coconut Milk Beverage in September 2015. This summer Starbucks introduced the Iced Coconut Milk Mocha Macchiato, the first signature beverage recipe to use Coconut Milk Beverage.

There are more than 170,000 ways baristas can customize beverages at Starbucks, selecting from a variety of dairy selections, combination of syrups, coffee/espresso options and toppings. Almond Beverage is sure to inspire customizations from Starbucks customers who consider it their preferred non-dairy option. Starbucks® Almond Beverage has light almond notes without any added flavouring. Because it’s unflavoured, customers can customize to their taste preferences. A 250 ml cup serving has just 4 grams of sugar, compared with 12-13 grams of naturally occurring sugar in 2 per cent dairy milk. It can be used in any handcrafted Starbucks® beverage for an additional 70-cent charge.
