seasonal chef’s tasting menu and more
The leaves are changing from green to gold, the air is brisk and pumpkins are dotting the Okanagan landscape – fall is almost here, and there’s no better way to ring in the season than with a visit to Liquidity Wines. This season, the winery is abuzz with a gold medal win in the 2018 Mondial des Pinots competition, as well as the introduction of two new wine releases, and a cozy fall menu at Liquidity Bistro.
First-time and returning guests alike to Liquidity’s picture-perfect vineyard can explore new sips with the introduction of two wine releases sure to delight a range of palates. The 2017 Chardonnay Estate ($29, plus tax) is a medium-bodied beauty with aromas of apricot, pear and lemon leading to notes of vanilla and cashew nuts. The first taste brings flavours of stone fruits bolstered by a hint of toastiness, leading to a perfectly balanced mouthfeel. Pairing suggestions include cool-weather favourites like rich risotto, butter-poached scallops, roasted pork loin and hearty mac-and-cheese. The 2016 Merlot ($26, plus tax) is being released to Wine Club members as part of their fall harvest shipment, and is not available in the tasting room just yet. It is smooth and elegant with complex aromas and flavours tangled together in a symphony of Italian plum, cherry, olives, blueberry, leather, celery seed and spice. Sign up to the Club to gain early access and serve it amongst good company with big bowls of pasta, steak and mushroom pie, Margherita pizza and wild game.
During your visit to Liquidity, be sure to raise a glass and toast the winery’s recent win at the 2018 Mondial des Pinots, the only competition in the world dedicated entirely to wines made from Pinot grapes. Winners are considered to have brought out the best in these grape varieties, and the award seal is coveted as a trusted reference tool for wine consumers worldwide. During this year’s competition, Liquidity’s 2016 Pinot Noir Equity ($56, plus tax) was selected from among 1,300 wines to receive the sought-after gold medal – and the only Pinot Noir in North America to receive gold. This elegant, fuller-bodied Pinot carries aromas of ripe red berries, black cherry, violets and plum. Jam-packed with ripe velvety tannins, the flavours unfold on the palate in layers of black cherry, raspberry, liquorice, rosehips and black tea. Pair the Pinot Noir Equity with roasted duck breast, beet salad or peppery greens, and a long night of conversation in front of a roaring fire.
“We are so grateful to have the opportunity to do what we love – craft incredible wines – and receive such overwhelming recognition for it,” says Alison Moyes, winemaker. “I’m really excited to share with guests Liquidity’s new fall wines, and also encourage them to revisit our other award-winning bottles. There are so many incredible winemakers here in the Okanagan, and around the world, and it is a complete honour to us when visitors choose Liquidity for their tasting experience.”
