Artisan Distillers Canada is proud to announce the 2019 results for the Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition.

Canadian Artisan Spirit of the Year – Monashee Spirits Craft Distillery Ethos Gin earned highest overall points across all categories. The gin is made in Revelstoke, BC from Triticale, and uses 15 botanicals including locally sourced huckleberries, juniper, spruce tips and ponderosa pine needles. Charlene Rooke, CASC’s lead judge, described the gin as having a “Delicately floral (white blossoms, rose petal, orange blossom, note of elderflower) nose, tinged with light pink grapefruit. Juicy citrus, white pepper and a silky elegant mouthfeel.”

British Columbia was well represented in medals again this year, reflecting the fact that around 40% of artisan distilleries in Canada are based in this province.

A total of 32 distilleries from BC earned medals, and several won Best in Class awards for the top spirit in their categories. These include:

  • de Vine Spirits – Ancient Grains: Best in Class (Young Whisky aged under 3 years) for the second year running.
  • Long Table Distillery – Långbord Akvavit: Best in Class (Akvavit)
  • Resurrection Spirits Inc. – Resurrection Spirits White Rye: Best in Class (White Spirit)
  • Sheringham Distillery – Red Fife Whisky: Best in Class (Whisky)
  • The Liberty Distillery – Railspur No. 3 Switch: Best in Class (Aged Spirit)
  • The Woods Spirit Co – Pacific Northwest Amaro: Best in Class (Amaro or Vermouth)

Medals were awarded to distilleries from British Columbia, Alberta, Manitoba, Saskatchewan, Ontario, Quebec, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Prince Edward Island. Complete results: https://artisandistillers.ca/2019-results/

Artisan Distillers Canada Launches!

Building on the success of the Canadian Artisan Spirit Competition, we are launching Artisan Distillers Canada (ADC). The structure of ADC will allow for more year-round engagement with distilleries across the country. We want to help build a stronger sense of community amongst artisan distillers, start to provide opportunities for collaboration, and continue to promote artisan distilleries and spirits.

ADC will be a membership-based organization, open to distilleries, soon-to-open distilleries, as well as others engaged with the distilling community. We’ve aimed to keep the pricing as modest as possible. For distilleries which participate in the spirit competition the membership fee will quickly pay for itself. For suppliers and service providers, membership will provide you will unique access to the distilling community across the country.

In addition, for the month of February, you can get your membership for an additional 20% off as a charter member. Just use VESPER-MARTINI as your discount code.

Our plans include:

  • A monthly newsletter with original content
  • A one-day distillers conference in 2020
  • Gathering and centralizing industry information and data

You can read about the benefits and join ADC here.

You can also just subscribe to the ADC mailing list to receive the newsletter — no membership is necessary for that!
