On Your Mark! Get Set! #HospitalityHustle

On Your Mark! Get Set!
#HospitalityHustle
(May 31st sunrise to sundown)

It’s only 8 days until the #HospitalityHustle, so if you haven’t already joined in the fun, it’s time to get moving! Organized by the BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF), the event is intended to help participants stay physically active and socially engaged during the COVID-19 pandemic, while showing support for those in the hospitality industry. The event is FREE and there are weekly prizes.

The Hospitality Hustle was originally planned as an in-person walk, but due to the necessity for social distancing the BCHF reinvented the Hustle as a provincewide virtual event. Participants have been posting their training videos on social media, and on Sunday May 31st they’ll all engage in a physical activity of their choice, such as walking 5km, cycling 10km, or dancing in their living rooms for an hour.

You can still register here to be eligible for the great new prizes just posted here. Don’t forget to check out Olympian Lynn Kanuka’s advice at #TrainingTipTuesday, or to take advantage of discounts at LadySport and FitFirst (details here).

The Hustle will take place anytime from sunrise to sunset on the 31st, and will conclude with an online social distancing dance party at 7:05pm hosted by live DJ TheTDMSound.

Participating is a great way to show solidarity with workers and owners in the hospitality industry who:

  • have lost their livelihoods
  • are still working hard to deliver food to frontline workers
  • are providing a takeout option for those who are socially isolating and need a night off

The event is free, but during the online dance party people will be welcome to donate online to BCHF or one of the other groups listed below and on our website.

So far the BCHF has received $1,000 from an anonymous donor and $1,000 from the Victoria Guest Services Network totalling $2000, (and we’d love to be able to match these funds with donation on our site HERE or online at the virtual party on May 31st.

The BCHF thanks the event’s generous supporters, including:

About the BC Hospitality Foundation
The BC Hospitality Foundation (BCHF) is a registered charity that raises funds to support those in the hospitality industry facing financial crisis due to a medical issue. Each year hundreds of hospitality workers across BC face financial challenges and have nowhere else to turn. The BCHF helps them when all other options have been exhausted. In addition, the BCHF offers a scholarship program to foster the development of the next generation of hospitality workers and industry leaders.
