Wednesday Wine Reviews with @Sam_WineTeacher

2020 Picpoul de Pinet
Ormaine
Pinet, France
$18.99
It’s always fun to try a wine that is out of the ordinary.  Lemon yellow with medium-minus intensity.  Lemon, lime, grapefruit, pear juice, floral tones, and crushed stones on the nose.  Good balance.  Crisp on the palate with lemon, white peach, and minerality.  A medium-plus finish.  This wine will pair nicely with fried chicken, oysters, clam strips, lobster, or deep-fried cod.

2020 Riesling (Urban)
Nik Weis
Mosel, Germany
$23.99
Pale straw with medium-light intensity.  The nose is well integrated with aromas of petrol, stone fruit, apple, pear, honey, citrus, and wet gravel.  Nicely balanced acid and sugar.  The aromas are reflected on the palate followed by a medium-long finish. This delightful 10% ABV wine is perfect for afternoon sipping.

2020 Rosé (True Colours – Pinot Noir)
Chain Reaction
Penticton, BC
$25.00
Pale cherry red in colour with medium-minus intensity.  The nose shows pronounced aromas of cherries, strawberries, red licorice and melon.  Very good balance with a creamy texture.  Juicy red fruit on the palate including cherries, sweet spice, honeysuckle, and cantaloupe followed by a medium-long finish.  Very nice.

2018 Zinfandel
Rust
Oliver, BC
$34.00
One of the few zinfandel wines made in BC, this wine is garnet red with medium-deep intensity.  The nose evolved with some time to breathe and revealed aromas of blackberry, plum, black cherry, red pepper, earth, bramble, spice and pencil shavings.  Good balance.  Dark fruit, briar, prune, and dark chocolate dominate the palate followed by a medium-long, slightly warm finish with dark bitter chocolate flavours lingering.

2019 Jasper
Daydreamer
Naramata, BC
$40.00
This blend leads with 64% Merlot, 21% Cabernet Sauvignon, and 15% Cabernet Franc.  Garnet red with medium-deep intensity.  Vanilla, spice, red and black fruit, and cherry on the nose.  Very good balance with fine tannins and a slightly sweet entry.  Fruit forward on the palate with flavours that reflect the nose followed by a medium-long finish.  Impressive.
