Vancouver Symphony Opens 105th Season with Bold Pairing of Mahler’s Sixth
and the BC Premiere of CATAMORPHOSIS
The Cadillac Masterworks Gold Series Opens the 2023/24 Season, Sept 15 & 16
The Vancouver Symphony Orchestra (VSO) is delighted to open its 105th season with the highly anticipated Masterworks Gold Series, sponsored by Cadillac; a remarkable musical journey where audiences can escape to the extraordinary. As a cornerstone of the city’s cultural landscape, the VSO continues to elevate the orchestral experience, and invites music aficionados and newcomers alike to experience the magic.
About the Cadillac Masterworks Gold Series
This series showcases an exquisite blend of classical masterpieces and contemporary works, beginning on September 15 & 16 with VSO Music Director, Maestro Otto Tausk conducting Mahler’s mythical Symphony No. 6, and Anna Thorvaldsdottir’s CATAMORPHOSIS.
Mahler’s Sixth Symphony is considered by many to be the composer’s most personal composition, taking audiences on a tragic journey culminating in three resounding hammer strokes — one of the greatest finales in classical music.
Premiered by the Berliner Philharmoniker in 2021, CATAMORPHOSIS has earned international awards and critical acclaim, and was composed in response to the fragile relationship we have to our planet. Paired alongside Mahler’s powerful symphony, this concert showcases the power of live music to move audiences and spark important conversations about the world today.
The Cadillac Masterworks Gold Series includes six concerts, running until May 2024, ranging from Tchaikovsky to Debussy, and culminating with Berlioz’s incomparable Symphonie fantastique.
The VSO is renowned for its commitment to excellence in every performance. The Cadillac Masterworks Gold series stands as a testament to the orchestra’s dedication to enriching the cultural tapestry of Vancouver and captivating audiences with transcendent musical experiences.
