STRATHCONA BLOCKS PARTY RETURNS FOR THIRD ANNUAL COMMUNITY CELEBRATION
Celebrate the Strathcona community at this free, family-friendly event
Let’s celebrate the vibrant neighbourhood of Strathcona at the Strathcona Blocks Party! Strathcona Blocks Party, organized by Low Tide Properties, returns for a third year with festivities hosted by community members, local businesses, and artists. The free, family-friendly event takes place on June 22 from noon to 5pm.
Taking over the 600 to 900 blocks of East Hastings Street, Strathcona Blocks Party invites community members to soak in the culture and community of this neighbourhood. At 840 East Hastings, attendees can enjoy musical performances by local artists such as Marlin Ramazzini Band; Sutursonic Band; and roving horn band Terminal City Brand Band. Live art installations, sponsored by the Strathcona Business Improvement Association, will spark creativity throughout the neighbourhood with contributions by The WKNDRS, Corey Bulpitt and Jean Paul Langlois.
Attendees can check out the skateboard ramp on Campbell Avenue, head over to the parking lot at 840 East Hastings to play outdoor games, or relax at the Strathcona Beer Garden at 895 East Hastings. At 840 East Hastings, kids can also get their faces painted, sponsored by Lordco, find Strathcona buddy tattoos and buttons by Ink Pad, or visit with Vancouver mascot Fin the Orca. Additionally, Ink Pad will be pressing tote bags onsite available by donation in support of the Writer’s Exchange.
Visitors are encouraged to sample the selection of local food trucks serving fresh, delicious cuisine. Participating trucks include Shameless Buns, Ay! Mamacita, Mama’s Fish & Chips, Good Dogs Plant Foods, and Nami. Eden Cafe, located at 643 East Hastings, will host a community BBQ, from 10am to 2pm.
While exploring the blocks, attendees will find giveaways, discounts, and fun activations from participating businesses. Additionally, attendees can shop at the Strathcona Market, curated by Made in the 604, which features Art Bedo, Homecoming Candles, Free Label and more. MakerLabs located at 780 East Cordova will host free tours, maker activities, and an open studio for visitors to experience.
New this year, Strathcona Blocks Party has introduced the Strathcona Passport. Featuring businesses from the 600 to 900 blocks of East Hastings Street, the passport encourages attendees to visit participating locations to collect a sticker or stamp. Anyone who completes the passport will be entered to win a Strathcona prize package.
“We are thrilled to bring back the Strathcona Blocks Party for a third year, and can’t wait to see familiar faces from the community, as well as businesses and stakeholders,” says Kathy Tuulos, Director of Tenant & Community Relations at Low Tide Properties. “Being able to honour and create new memories in this unique neighbourhood through art, music and food is so special.
