The family behind the beloved family-run Bow & Stern brand is celebrating summer in full swing by officially opening the patio at its newest location at The Amazing Brentwood in the heart of Burnaby at #2626-4567 Lougheed Highway.
Open Mondays to Fridays from 11 a.m. to midnight and Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. to midnight, Bow & Stern Brentwood showcases the full bounty of ocean-inspired dining and local craft beer, wine and cocktails in a warm and intimate space that offers an expansive, sun-soaked patio with seating for 52 and will celebrate its first anniversary this September.
Bow & Stern is a true family affair and labour of love for founders Jon and Jacki Smith, who started in the local restaurant industry in 1988 with a concept centred around a signature fish and chips recipe that remains a staple on Bow & Stern menus to this day. Jon and Jacki went on to found Bow & Stern with their son Jordan and launched their first location in Abbotsford in 2014 before opening a second location in Chilliwack in 2020. Their newest location in The Amazing Brentwood joined the family last fall, with Jordan, his brother Jake and brother-in-law Adam overseeing operations.
“Our guiding principle is staying true to the ocean-inspired dining philosophy that my parents had when they launched their first restaurant back in 1988,” says Jordan. “At every location of Bow & Stern, families and friends can come together to connect and make lasting memories, escape the demands of everyday life and enjoy our signature approach to hospitality and service,”
The Bow & Stern Brentwood back of house team is led by Head Chef Mario Ruiz, whose resume includes stops at acclaimed Vancouver restaurants such as Bishops, Bauhaus and Say Mercy and whose culinary philosophy dovetails perfectly with Bow & Stern’s approach to showcasing the very best fresh ingredients procured from West Coast fishers, farmers and foragers.
The Bow & Stern Brentwood food menu includes an array of small plates and shareables, salads and bowls, sushi, tacos and handhelds, signature ‘for the table’ touches such as a Hot Seafood Platter (Arctic Char, Tiger Prawns, Atlantic Lobster Halves, Mussels & Clams, White Wine Cream Sauce, Seasonal Vegetables, Jasmine Rice) and a Chilled Seafood Tower (Selection of Oysters, Jumbo Prawn Cocktail, Atlantic Lobster Halves, Tuna Tataki, Signature B&S Roll) as well as ‘Reef & Beef’ options that pair fresh caught seafood with a choice of top-grade Canadian AAA steaks with all the fixings.
Guests of Bow & Stern Brentwood can also enjoy twice-daily Happy Hour menus from 2 to 5 p.m. and 9 p.m. to close that showcase highlights like Two-Buck-a-Shuck Oysters, $10 Oyster Shots (Bamba vodka, house cocktail sauce and horseradish), Baja Fish or Bang Bang Shrimp Tacos for $8 each, signature Cod & Chips or Honey Thyme Fried Chicken Sliders for $15 as well as other can’t-miss dishes and feature-priced craft beer, wine, cocktail and zero-proof libations.
Every Monday, Mussels and Margaritas take centre stage, with half orders of Mussels or Clams in a choice of white wine cream, Thai green curry or Spanish tomato sauce served with house-made focaccia bread on offer for $12.50 per order and delicious drink deals that include Classic Margaritas for $10, Jalapeño and Strawberry M argaritas and custom Marg-of-the-Day creations for $12 in addition to house lagers and glasses of house red or white wine for $5 and $6, respectively.
Early birds and late risers can also get their weekends off on the right foot during Weekend Brunch on Saturdays and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. and enjoy a menu of contemporary West Coast fare and classics that include a signature Brunch Tower for Two (Prawn Avocado Benny, Pancakes, Macerated Berries, Scones, Seasonal Fruit, Bagels and Salmon Gravlax) for $79, fresh oysters on the half shell, a trio of Eggs Benedicts (bacon, salmon cake or prawn avocado), Chicken & Waffles and more, as well as boozy brunch features including Mimosas for the Table and Caesars. The weekend menu also includes a Brunch Happy Hour available from 10 to 11 a.m. that features an assortment of dishes for $15.
Other weekly features at Bow & Stern Brentwood include $6 Well Highballs (vodka, gin, rum, whiskey, tequila) on Mondays; $5 Draught B&S Craft Lager or Pale Ale on Tuesdays; half off bottles during Wine Wednesdays; ‘Dawn Til Dusk’ Red or White Sangria for $10 every Thursday night; and $5 Mimosas and Caesars every Satu rday and Sunday until 2 p.m.
