The Magnolia Hotel & Spa Named #1 Best Hotel in Canada by
Condé Nast Traveller (UK) Readers’ Choice Awards 2025
Victoria’s most award-winning boutique hotel celebrates continued award success
Victoria’s Magnolia Hotel & Spa has been named the #1 Best Hotel in Canada in the 2025 Condé Nast Traveller (UK) Readers’ Choice Awards, announced earlier today.
With a score of 98.67/100, the Magnolia Hotel & Spa is the only Vancouver Island property to appear on the list, underscoring its reputation as one of Canada’s premier boutique hotels. This recognition adds to a series of international honours for Magnolia Hotel & Spa, including Travel + Leisure’s T+L 100: Best Hotels in the World list and a MICHELIN One Key award.
“On behalf of our valued owners and dedicated team, I am thrilled to share this news,” says Bill Lewis, General Manager of Magnolia Hotel & Spa. “Being named the #1 hotel in Canada is a true honour. We are deeply grateful to our guests from around the world for choosing Magnolia Hotel & Spa as part of their travel experiences and for taking the time to vote for us. Their trust and support inspire us to continue delivering exceptional hospitality and unforgettable stays.”
Moments from Victoria’s Inner Harbour, Magnolia Hotel & Spa was founded in 1998 by Victoria entrepreneurs Jim Duncan and Anthony Young, born from a shared passion for travel. Today, Jim’s daughter, Nicole Roberts, continues the legacy alongside the Young family, ensuring the hotel reflects Victoria’s culture and local values. The property features 64 elegantly appointed guestrooms, some with gas fireplaces and harbour views, along with amenities such as Nespresso coffee, Dyson hair dryers and locally sourced products from Salt Spring Island Soapworks and Silk Road Tea. Guests also enjoy signature experiences at The Courtney Room and Spa Magnolia, located in the hotel lobby.
Looking ahead, Magnolia Hotel & Spa will refresh its two Diamond floors this winter in collaboration with BBA Design Consultants, creating a refined residential ambiance with rich grey velvets, soft camel tones, warm brass accents, plush wool carpets and crisp white Frette linens. Thoughtful curation of artwork and furnishings ensures each room provides a calm, modern sanctuary for guests.
Condé Nast Traveller (UK) readers also named Vancouver Island the #1 Island in North America and Tofino’s Wickaninnish Inn the #3 Best Resort in the World. Meanwhile, Condé Nast Traveler (US) readers recognized Victoria as the Best Small City in the World (for the third consecutive year), with Oak Bay Beach Resort and the Fairmont Empress named among the Best Hotels in Western Canada, highlighting Vancouver Island’s broader reputation for world-class hospitality.
