Big Bang Theory 2024

Winemaking
The grapes were grown in the Horse Heaven Hills, at Andrews Family Vineyards, a member of Sustainable WA. The soils are very similar to what we have in our own estate vineyard and our grower vineyards in Osoyoos, which allowed us to assemble a wine that is true to our house style. The similarity between the sites was a big contributing factor in our decision to source our fruit from this site.
Grapes were hand harvested September 23rd and 30th at the ideal balance between flavour, tannin evolution, sugar level, and acidity. Bins were loaded into a waiting temperature-controlled truck for transport up to our cellar in Okanagan Falls for processing, fermentation, and aging. On arrival in our cellar, the fruit was destemmed and transferred to tanks for 7-day cold soak prior to fermentations. Tanks were pumped over once or twice per day and macerations ranged from 18 to 21 days. The wines were transferred to French oak barrels for MLF and aging. After 3 months in barrel, the blend was assembled and put back to barrel for another 3 months of aging prior to bottling.
While we did work to preserve the freshness and limit the extraction, the Horse Heaven Hills AVA produces fruit with thick skins and big tannin potential, which we wanted to showcase as well. The result is a rich, ripe expression of Big Bang Theory, and we are incredibly proud of how the wine came together.
Tasting notes
Colour: Deep ruby.
Nose: Ripe plum, dark berries and cherries, floral, vanilla, and chocolate.
Palate: Plum and dark cherries with fine-grained tannins balances the richness, while the acidity helps to preserve the freshness.
Residual Sugar: 4.1 grams/litre
Pairings
The 2024 Big Bang Theory is a versatile wine. The richness and structure will allow it to stand up to red meats, grilled sausages, rich mushroom dishes, lasagna, or any pastas with red sauce. Pizza would also work incredibly well!

“Lush plum and black-cherry flavours glide across the palate, supported by fine-grained, lightly leathery tannins. Bright acidity keeps everything fresh and lively, while the fuller texture delivers a smooth, fruit-forward finish that lingers with satisfying depth. Delicious now, but with the structure and balance to age gracefully if you have the patience,” writes Julian Park, awarding the 92-point score.
Pinot Gris 2024

Winemaking
The Pinot Gris was grown on a gentle north-facing slope, a rarity in the Horse Heaven Hills, at Andrews Family Vineyards, a member of Sustainable WA. We decided to keep a heavier canopy in the block to allow us to push the harvest date back into late-September, which gave the fruit more time to evolve on the vine while still preserving the natural acidity. The soils in the Pinot Gris block are silty-loam over top of fractured basalt. The upper soils are very similar to what we have in our own vineyards, which allowed us to put together a wine that is true to our house style. The similarity between the sites was a big contributing factor in our decision to source our fruit from Andrews Family Vineyards, second only to the AFV team.
The fruit was harvested on September 24th, and after a two-hour cold soak, the juice was pressed to tank to settle before being racked and transferred to our cellar in temperature-controlled trucks.
Upon arrival in our cellar, the juice was racked into tanks to cold settle further prior to fermentation. Each tank was given a slightly different treatment, allowing us to put together a nuanced wine with all the orchard fruit and stone fruit notes, acidity, and balance that is so reminiscent of our Okanagan Valley-sourced Pinot Gris.
Tasting note
Colour: Pale straw.
Nose: Orchard fruits, stone fruits, honey, and tangerine.
Palate: A bright attack of pear, apple, and lemon. The richness builds into the mid-palate, balancing the acidity, and carries into the nicely textured finish with flavours of stone fruits and honey. A Pinot Gris that remains true to our house style, through all of the challenges of the 2024 vintage.
Residual Sugar: 2.6 grams/litre
Pairing
Roasted chicken, grilled fish, salty cheese.

“Bright and lively on entry, offering pear, apple, and citrus. The mid-palate broadens with gentle richness, revealing layers of stone fruit and subtle honey notes. Acidity remains finely balanced throughout, resulting in a clean, textured finish that lingers with notes of citrus and pear,” writes Julian Park, awarding the 92-point score.
Hatfield’s Fuse 2024

Winemaking
The fruit for the 2024 Hatfield’s Fuse was sourced from the Sustainable WA certified Andrews Family Vineyards in the Horse Heaven Hills AVA in Washington State. Each block of fruit was harvested separately at its ideal combination of sugar, acid, and flavour, with a vision not only to each individual wine, but to how the blend would work as a whole. This approach allowed us to work simply in the cellar while putting together a beautifully balanced and nuanced wine. We also incorporated a few hours of skin contact into the processing on a few of the lots to push the aromatic intensity and mouthfeel of the wine.
The various components are selected to bring a piece to the whole. The Pinot Gris brings orchard fruit and stone fruit as well as a boost to the texture of the overall blend, the Riesling brings brilliant acidity and a beautiful citrus component, and the Viognier brings a floral character, while also having a huge contribution towards the mouthfeel of the blend. Every component in the wine has a specific role to play, and in 2024 they are all performing their roles beautifully!
Tasting Notes
Colour: Pale Straw.
Nose: Lemon, clementine, pear, green apple, and white peach.
Palate: A juicy attack of lemon, orange, florals, and peach, with lively acidity carrying through the mid-palate. Orchard fruits take over from there and the texture builds through the long finish. Great balance, freshness, and fruit character from start to finish.
Residual Sugar: 5.1 grams/litre
Pairing
Poached salmon, pork schnitzel, roasted chicken, or creamy pasta dishes.
