The Consorzio Tutela Vini Montecucco DOC and DOCG returns to Vinitaly with renewed optimism and a structured and representative presence for the appellation: from April 12 to 15 in Verona (Hall 9, Stand B16), Montecucco will present its consortium desk, along with six member wineries – Villa Patrizia, Campinuovi, La Banditaccia, Basile, Parmoleto and Peteglia – and, for the second year, a space dedicated to the Montecucco Biodistrict, demonstrating an identity increasingly tied to sustainability and territorial value.

Participation in the most important international Italian wine fair represents a strategic opportunity to strengthen the appellation’s positioning and consolidate dialogue with industry professionals, buyers and the press, in a context that attracts the best of the global wine scene every year.

This year again, at the stand it will be possible to taste a representative selection of the DOC and DOCG – with 33 labels that showcase the richness and diversity of this land – produced in the seven municipalities of Cinigiano, Civitella Paganico, Castel del Piano, Seggiano, Arcidosso, Roccalbegna and Campagnatico, in the province of Grosseto: from Montecucco Vermentino DOC to Montecucco Rosso and Rosso Riserva DOC, and Montecucco Sangiovese and Sangiovese Riserva DOCG, a distinctive expression of an area that remains authentic but is increasingly recognized for its quality and stylistic consistency.

2025 ended with encouraging signs for the appellation, which confirms its dynamism even in a complex production environment, recording a +11% growth in bottling and consolidating the confidence of companies and the market. This development path is accompanied by an increasingly pronounced green commitment: today, over 90% of production is certified organic, and the recent creation of the Biodistrict further strengthens the commitment of companies and the Consortium to sustainable and environmentally friendly models.

Besides its trade fair presence, the Consortium continues to invest in shared promotional activities, focusing on local synergies and opening up to international markets. Specifically, incomings of buyers and journalists realized in collaboration with the Maremma DOC and Morellino di Scansano DOCG Consortia are scheduled for June and September. The events will involve buyers and media from Belgium, the Netherlands, Poland, the Czech Republic, Sweden, Denmark, Germany and Austria (in June), as well as the United States, Canada and China (at the end of September).

“Unity continues to be strength when it comes to promoting the wonderful Tuscan Maremma region, and specifically the Montecucco region – still waiting to be discovered -, with its ancient agricultural tradition and wild landscapes, where you can rediscover unspoiled nature and a strong green vocation. In this context, activities such as incomings represent a concrete opportunity to strengthen the appellation’s reputation and recognition in our key markets, such as Benelux, Central and Northern Europe, as well as the United States and Canada – commented Consortium President Giovan Battista Basile, concluding – It is also essential to increasingly integrate the Consortium’s activities with the tourism sector (100% of member companies are equipped to welcome visitors), especially in light of the new reform of Geographical Indications, EU Regulation 2024/1143, which requires Consortia to play an increasingly active role in promoting their territories”.

Finally, the process for expanding the production area of the Montecucco DOC and Montecucco Sangiovese DOCG appellations is in its final stage, aiming to include also higher altitude areas currently excluded from the regulations. This forward-thinking project, currently pending validation by Regione Toscana (Tuscany Region), is designed to respond to climate change and develop new potential beyond areas already planted or suitable for vines. Approval is expected in the coming months.

An approach that confirms Montecucco as an evolving appellation, capable of combining identity, sustainability and vision, looking forward with awareness and ambition.
