Kim Uncorked: Welcome to my weekly wine recommendation.
Hi, I’m Kim, a passionate lover of wine, food, and any experience that brings the two together! In this weekly blog post, I share my thoughts on a wine that I’ve recently purchased from one of our local independent wine merchants. If you’d like to know more about me, I’ve included a brief bio following the post.

This week, I’m spotlighting one of my favourite white wines: Grüner Veltliner. Crisp, dry and aromatic, this versatile varietal from Austria’s Burgenland offers a great alternative to Sauvignon Blanc or Pinot Grigio.
The 2023 Esterházy “Klimt” Grüner Veltliner not only showcases the wine’s classic character but also features The Kiss by Gustav Klimt on the label, the result of a partnership between the Esterházy estate and Vienna’s Belvedere Museum, home to the masterpiece. By uniting a renowned Austrian work of art with a treasured grape variety, Esterházy honors the country’s cultural heritage, while creating a bottle that is distinctly Austrian inside and out.
The wine opens with aromas of lime zest, green apple, and white pepper. Its bone-dry palate offers lively citrus, orchard fruit, subtle asparagus, and signature peppery spice. Medium-light in body, it offers crisp acidity and a clean, vibrant, food-friendly finish.
Pair Grüner Veltliner with vegetable-forward dishes like asparagus risotto, fresh salads, or light seafood.
