Local celebrities and creatives to revamp pre-loved chairs for charity auction at BC Place Stadium, October 16-19, 2014
Taking five has never looked – or felt – so good! The Ultimate Upcycle Challenge 3: ChairLIFT, a charitable furniture repurposing project, is taking place once again at the Vancouver Home + Design Show, happening October 16 to 19, 2014 at BC Place Stadium. Back by popular demand, this year’s challenge will feature pre-loved chairs that have been upcycled into fabulous new creations by local media personalities, designers, and tastemakers, with 100% of proceeds benefitting Habitat for Humanity Greater Vancouver.
“The Ultimate Upcycle Challenge was one of our most popular features at last fall’s Vancouver Home + Design Show, and we couldn’t wait to bring it back,” said Jill Kivett, regional director for Marketplace Events, owner and operator of the Vancouver Home + Design Show. “Environmentally-friendly and design-savvy, upcycling hits all the right notes with today’s clever homeowners. We know this will be our best showing yet!”
The renewed designs will be up for grabs at a silent auction, where show-goers can place bids on chairs designed by:
• Tamara Taggart, Anchor at CTV Vancouver
• Norma Reid, Anchor at CTV Vancouver
• Johanna Ward, Producer and Host of go! Vancouver at
• Jennifer Scott, Interior Stylist and Design Consultant at
• Kelsey Klassen, Associate Editor at WE Vancouver
• Kelsey Dundon, Blogger at The Anthology
• Christine Friend, Interior Decorator at Friendly Decorator
• Barbara Matson, Interior Designer at Markova Design Inc.
• Jamie Banfield, Interior Designer at Jamie Banfield Design
• The Vancouver Home + Design Show team
Participants were tasked with revamping their chairs using Rust-Oleum products, a $50 design budget and plenty of creativity. Rust-Oleum, a strong supporter of at-home upcycles, will have its Canadian spokesperson and DIY expert Leigh-Ann Allaire Perrault on-hand at the show to offer her insights around the entries. She appears on the Metrie Main Stage on Friday, October 17th at 4 PM and Saturday, October 18th at 12 PM.
