Executive Chef Bal Ajagaonkar’s New $45 Prix Fixe Feast Takes Guests
on a Tour of Regional Recipes, Authentic Indian Flavours
in Downtown Vancouver Hotspot

Desi Indian Lounge Executive Chef Bal Ajagaonkar is warming up fall and winter by debuting a new Five-Course Tasting Menu inspired by the flavours and recipes of his homeland at the dining hotspot located in the heart of Downtown Vancouver at 1355 Hornby Street.

Available Tuesdays through Saturdays from 6 p.m. to close with 24-hour advance reservations, Desi’s new Tasting Menu takes guests on a true feast for the senses via dishes that include Tandoori Squash Soup, Sago Cassava Tikki, main-course choices of Malabar Salmon or Paneer & Quinoa Pilaf and Kolhapuri Lamb Bhareli Vangi or Mushroom Bhareli Vangi and a dessert course of Ukadiche Modak & Cranberry Pudding for $45 per person plus tax and gratuity, with wine pairings available for $25 per person.

The latest tasting menu update comes from Ajagaonkar, who was born in the coastal town of Malvan in Western India and worked alongside Michelin-starred chefs in five-star hotels and restaurants across the globe before bringing his culinary talents to the helm of the Desi kitchen team.

“This menu is more than just a meal — it’s a celebration inspired by India’s festival season, with each course a tribute to tradition reimagined with the rhythm of today,” says Ajagoankar. “This is a seasonal offering that is a journey through the festive soul of my home country told in five courses crafted with care, gratitude and reverence.”

Opened earlier this year, Desi Indian Lounge has quickly carved out a reputation for highlighting the bold and vibrant flavors of India in dishes that are deeply rooted in tradition yet crafted with a modern touch and presented with understated flair in a cozy, inviting space where culinary excellence meets heartfelt hospitality.

Desi also offers twice-daily Happy Hours from 2:30 to 5:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m. to close that showcase a choice of Paneer or Chicken Thepla Tacos, Nachos, Chili and Momos ($9/$10 ea.), Gobi Manchurian and Shimla Kebabs for $9 each and Chicken Lollipops and Kerala Pepper Chicken for $10 each plus tax.

The Happy Hour drink highlights include signature, hand-crafted $20 cocktails, a selection of BC Craft Beer for $5 per sleeve, Tamarind or Jalapeño Margaritas or Aperol Spritzes for $11 ea., 6oz pours of House Red or White Wine for $7 ea., a choice of vodka, tequila, gin or rum Highballs for $5 (1oz) or $7 (2oz) ea., Mango Lassis for $4 ea. and Mango or Strawberry Mojitos for $6.5 ea.
