GREEK-MEETS-MEXICAN COLLABORATIVE DINNER ON OCTOBER 16

Loula’s Taverna Head Chef Mike Livingstone is teaming up with his Commercial Drive culinary counterpart Kevin Orozco, Head Chef at La Mezcaleria, for an all-star Fall Collaboration Dinner that mingles Mexican and Greek flavours at La Mezcaleria (1622 Commercial Dr.) on Thursday, October 16.
A limited number of tickets are available for $58 per person plus tax and gratuity for the one-night-only event that begins at 6 p.m. and includes four family-style courses inspired by Greek and Mexican recipes and traditions and a complimentary cocktail at an after-party in the speakeasy back bar at neighbouring Loula’s Taverna (1608 Commercial Drive) following the dinner. The second collaborative chef’s dinner in an ongoing series presented by Loula’s Taverna, the menu for the La Mezcaleria X Loula’s Fall Collaboration Dinner features dishes that include Dolmates Greek Tamales (corn dough with Greek spices, wrapped in vine leaves, Greek yogurt, cucumber, chili oil), Dry Green Pozole Tostadas (crispy corn tortilla, tzatziki, dry green pozole with chickpeas, feta, olive oil macha, radish, fennel, cilantro), Lamb Barbacoa (slow-cooked lamb leg, barbacoa jus, roasted eggplant-habanero purée, Greek salad, pita bread), Granita (green grape, lime, mint) and Goat Cheese Flan (orange & caramel custard, kataifim nutmeg-cardamom syrup, fresh berries).
Livingstone is no stranger to Mexican cuisine, having helped his mother run their family spot Chicanos Mexican Restaurant in Quesnel for more than a decade prior to coming to Vancouver and working in restaurants around the city before helming the kitchen at Loula’s in 2024.
La Mezcaleria’s Orozco was born in Ciudad Neza, Mexico and developed his love for cooking from helping his abuela in her kitchen as a child. He went on to graduate from culinary school in Guadalajara and honed his skills in kitchens in Mexico, Spain and Whistler before joining the team at La Mezcaleria in 2024.
