TAP & BARREL RECOGNIZED FOR BEST RESTAURANT BC WINE LIST
Tap & Barrel has been voted for having the Best Restaurant BC Wine List in the Georgia Straight’s Golden Plates Awards. The award validates Tap & Barrel’s commitment to a wine list dedicated exclusively to the wines of BC on tap – the only wine list of its kind. With two locations, and a third opening this summer, pouring over 25 different BC wines from 50 taps, Tap & Barrel has become a major player in the world of BC wine. “We love sharing the best of what BC has to offer,” states Tap & Barrel’s founder and owner, Daniel Frankel. “We are thrilled that the people of Vancouver love it too! We would like to thank the readers of the Georgia Straight and all of our customers for this incredible honour.”
Tap & Barrel’s line-up of wines from across BC, which includes a large selection of custom and exclusive options, serves as a showcase for the province’s diverse growing regions, grapes, and wine styles. “I’m an all-out, full-on, unabashed BC wine fan,” admits Tap & Barrel’s Sommelier David Stansfield. “As such, my job is seriously fun. I spend a ton of time hanging around cellars with BC’s best winemakers in order to select and sometimes even help create the wines we serve at Tap & Barrel.”
All of Tap & Barrel’s wines are served through the FreshTAP system, boosting the largest selection of wine-on-tap in any restaurant in Canada. “From day one Tap & Barrel has championed wine-on-tap,” explains FreshTAP CEO Mike Macquisten. “They’ve led the charge in recruiting BC wineries to this consumer-friendly style of wine service. Their win is a major vote for wine-on-tap.” The FreshTAP system ensures that the wine never comes in contact with oxygen, keeping it in its natural state and eliminating spoilage. It also significantly decreases Tap & Barrel’s carbon footprint and eliminates packaging waste – the two restaurants have saved over 75,000 bottles, corks and capsules and over 9,000 pounds of cardboard to date.
