Vancouver’s “best small gala” not only features many of the best chefs in Vancouver, it garners auction items that sound like a fantasy wish list. Pacific Yacht Cruise will provide dinner for 20 friends – or cocktails for 50. Prefer a catered dinner for 10 in a private home, along with a freezer full of steaks and roasts or a weekend at a Sonoma vineyard that includes cooking lessons, wine tastings, and a specially prepared dinner with vintners, chefs, and winery owners? These are just some of the bid items available – and the chances of winning are high, given the exclusive size of the event.
Passions 2018, will be held September 26 at Performance Works on Granville Island. Each year, the community of chefs creates delectable dishes with specialty cocktails and the best wines are served up on demand. It’s a fun foodie event where fans can sample tastes, meet the chefs and bid on a huge array of food, wine and getaway packages – all while contributing to the outstanding day program run by Dr. Peter AIDS Foundation. Emcees, Global TV anchor Sophie Lui and celebrity auctioneer Fred Lee, greatly add to the fun and excitement.
“It’s been a labour of love over the past 15 years,” says Nathan Fong, award winning food stylist and journalist. “I continue to be grateful for the generosity of my friends and colleagues in the hospitality industry. Together, we have been able to make a difference in a very vulnerable community.”
Nathan Fong is Passions founder and committee co-chair with Michael Barker-Fyfe.
Passions has raised an invaluable $1.4 million in support of compassionate care at the Dr. Peter Centre. The money raised supports 80,000 meals served at the Centre every year. Today the Centre services more than 300 clients in the Day Health Program.

ABOUT PASSIONS
The history of Passions dates back to 2002, to a small charity cooking class at Barbara-Jo’s Books to Cooks. A year later, in 2003, the event was moved to the Dr. Peter Centre and titled Passions. Organized by Vancouver food media personality, Nathan Fong, the inaugural event featured nine chefs, 100 attendees and raised $7,000. Under Nathan’s continued stewardship, Passions has since tripled in size and has become one of Vancouver’s most popular food and wine events, raising much-needed funds for the Dr. Peter Centre.
