May 29th marks the beginning of Vancouver Craft Beer Week. Now entering its 6th year and with a craft beer market that’s showing no signs of slowing down, VCBW is bigger than ever. Throughout the week there will be events happening all over the city and it all concludes with a two day festival at the PNE fair grounds.
The week kicks off with the opening gala on May 29th. This event features the first ever Vancouver Magazine International Craft Beer Awards Gala, and features over 25 international craft breweries. With craft beer samples from the winning breweries and food prepared by CRAFT Beer Market, you really can’t go wrong.
On May 31st, it’s GIGANTIBIROOMCOBALTAPALOOZA. Good luck saying that on your first try 😉 Great live music and a beer menu featuring Gigantic Brewing from Portland with a little help from Parallel 49, Brassneck and Strange Fellows. Did I mention, there’s also a taco bar put on by Railway Cafe? It’s definitely worth checking out.
Also happening on May 31st, This Sandwich That Beer Showdown. With your ticket you get to sample nine sandwich and beer pairings and then vote for your favourite. Proceeds from this event will be donated to the 2015 Aprons for Gloves for East Side Boxing. Aprons for Gloves is a community outreach program offering mentorship and training to women and youth in the downtown eastside. For more information on their program, click here.
On June 1st, be sure to check out the Biercraft Belgian Showcase. Featuring a wide selection of Belgian beer styles, both old and new, this event is a celebration of Belgium’s great craft brewing tradition.
June 5th, it’s the Rookies and Legends event happening at 12 Kings Pub. Featuring 12 rookie brewers and 12 legends of BC craft beer, this event doubles as a fundraiser for the BC Craft Brewers Guild. Your ticket includes beer samples and a variety of food samples.
As I mentioned above, the week concludes with the two day Vancouver Craft Beer Festival at the PNE Fair Grounds on June 6th and 7th. General admission tickets start at $34.95, but with over 100 breweries and close to 400 beers to sample you might want to get a head start with the gate crasher ticket. This festival is also the staging ground for the 2015 Stihl Western Canadian Finals with events happening on both days of the festival.
