Canadian wineries head to the UK for a trade and press tasting

After a very successful tasting at the Canada House a few years ago, Le Vieux Pin and sister winery LaStella join 32 producers from five regions across Canada: British Columbia, New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, Ontario and Quebec – to present over 150 of their wines. This will be the first time the UK has had all five regions from Canada in one place at the same time, and it will be the largest pan-Canadian delegation at any international event they have had so far. The tasting is being held on Thursday, May 14th at The Canada House and will also feature still and ice ciders.

Le Vieux Pin Winery will be showcasing their 2013 Ava (Viognier, Roussanne, Marsanne); 2013 Syrah Cuvèe Violette; 2012 Syrah Cuvèe Classique and the 2011 Équinoxe Syrah. From the LaStella Winery near Osoyoos, the 2011 Maestoso ‘Solo’ Merlot and 2012 Allegretto Pie-Franco Merlot (soon to be released) will be poured.

There will be a red wine master class, focusing on the key varieties and styles from both British Columbia and Ontario. Out of 100+ wines, less than a dozen were chosen by Canadian Master Sommelier John Szabo for the master class and the Le Vieux Pin Syrah will be one of those twelve.

Gordon Campbell, High Commissioner of Canada to the UK, commented, “The UK offers great potential for Canadian wineries, and so we are pleased to support them with full confidence that our cool climate wines, fruit wines and ciders have a place in this competitive arena.”

Wine writer, Jamie Goode, who has visited Canada three times since 2013 says, “I am so impressed with the wines I have found. It’s a relatively young, dynamic and diverse wine scene and, if you are curious about wine, you owe it to yourself to take this chance to check it out.”
