Marcus Ansems 2013 Shiraz copy

2013 Syrah (Marcus Ansems)

Daydreamer

Penticton, BC

$34.90

Gold Medal

Marcus Ansem is Daydreamer’s high-end label. Marcus Ansem, the winemaker, has taken a leap of faith to put his own name on these wines, but to date it has been a prudent move. These are impressive wines. Garnet black in colour with deep intensity. The nose is rich and complex showing aromas of blackberry, rose, violets, white pepper, forest floor and spice. Very well balanced. The flavours follow the nose with a medium-long finish where the flavours intensify. This is an excellent example of BC Syrah.

Meyer Family 2013 McLean Creek Pinot Noir

2013 Pinot Noir (McLean Creek Road)

Meyer Family Vineyards

Okanagan Falls, BC

$40.00

Gold Medal

There were only 500 cases made of this fruit-forward Pinot, which was cropped to only two tonnes per acre, which helps to account for its high quality. Garnet red in colour with medium-deep intensity. The nose is layered with aromas of bright red fruit – cherry, plum and a hint of strawberry and forest floor. Very well balanced with good body. The flavours follow the nose with a medium-long finish. This is an elegant, sexy Pinot.

Meyer Family 2013 Reimer Pinot Noir

2013 Pinot Noir (Reimer Vineyard)

Meyer Family Vineyards

Okanagan Falls, BC

$40.00

Gold Medal

The Pinot from this vineyard was cropped to less than one tonne per acre and only 180 cases were made. This is the kissing cousin to Meyer’s McLean Creek Pinot Noir and comes from a vineyard further north in Kelowna, and from a greater variety of clones, all of which results in a wine that expresses a more mineral terroir. Garnet red in colour with medium-plus intensity. Red fruit, sweet spice, earth and mineral aromas on the nose. Very well balanced with flavours that echo the nose and a medium-long finish.   A great example of what BC can do with Pinot.

Volcanic Hills 2008 Syrah 4

2008 Syrah

Volcanic Hills

West Kelowna, BC

$27.90

Silver Medal

Garnet black in colour with deep intensity. Very good balance with good body. The flavours echo the nose with a long lingering dry chocolate finish. This wine cries out for a char grilled steak.

Mission Hill 2011 Perpetua Chardonnay

2011 Perpetua Chardonnay

Mission Hills

West Kelowna, BC

$34.99

Silver Medal

This elegant chardonnay is lemon yellow in colour with medium-light intensity. The nose displays well-integrated oak and fruit along with aromas of toast, honey, vanilla, a hint of butter, citrus and fresh cream. Well balanced with a creamy mouthfeel. The elegance carries through on the palate. A medium-long finish with lingering bright fruit.
