TELUS OptikTM Local serves up a slice of behind-the-scenes action from the 2015 competition

Hungry for a taste of what happens behind the scenes at the annual Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship Foundation? The Next Course, a 10-episode mini series produced with support from TELUS Optik Local, follows Chef David Hawksworth as he travels across the country to make his vision of encouraging young Canadian chefs a reality, by giving them the opportunity to cook in front of a panel of revered chefs in the hopes of winning a $10,000 prize.

“We are thrilled to work with TELUS to showcase the highly skilled chefs, established and emerging, that make up the Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship Foundation,” says founder Chef David Hawksworth. “It’s an honour to work with the luminaries of today to encourage the culinary stars of tomorrow and share the journey of our talented contestants from across Canada.”

Launching for free January 26 on TELUS Optik TV on Demand and on www.hawksworthscholarship.com, the 10 episodes focus on the four cities, Vancouver, Toronto, Calgary and Montreal, that held regional competition heats judged by 22 of the country’s top chefs and food critics as part of the 2015 competition.

In Episode 1 Chef Hawksworth explores his hometown of Vancouver and meets local visionary chefs such as Vikram Vij before introducing the first heat of the 2015 Hawksworth Young Chef Scholarship in Vancouver. Throughout the 10 episodes Chef Hawksworth meets contemporary culinary trailblazers, including Chef Rob Gentile from Toronto (Buca) and Chef Justin Leboe from Calgary’s Model Milk, to find out what inspired them to pick up their chef knives and get into the kitchen.

Feel the heat in the six episodes that feature behind-the-scenes footage from the kitchens of the four regional competitions, and a two-part finale that follows the eight finalists as they battle it out to win an international stage and a $10,000 prize in this nail-biting competition.

Applications for the 2016 culinary contest are now open for young Canadian chefs. For more information or to apply, please visit www.hawksworthscholarship.com.
