2011 Syrah

Pacific Breeze

New Westminster, BC

$23.99

This is a small lot wine with only 830 bottles made. The wine is garnet red with deep intensity. A layered nose showing aromas of blackberry, black currant, raspberry, tar, black pepper, earth, cedar, chocolate and sweet spice. Very well balanced with smooth ripe tannins. This is a big bottom wine. The flavours follow the nose. A medium-long finish with lingering fruit flavours. Very impressive.

2013 Sauvignon Blanc

New Harbor

Marlborough, New Zealand

$15.36

Straw yellow with medium-light intensity. Aromas of lime and mineral on the nose with notes of delicate tropical fruit. The wine is well-balanced – clean, crisp and refreshing. The flavours echo the nose followed by a medium-long finish. This wine would pair well with sautéed scallops, prawns, light sauced pasta, salads or luncheon dishes.

2014 Etna Rosso

Pietradolce

Etna, Italy

$25.49

James Suckling (Decanter) likes this wine a lot more than I do so take that into consideration. Garnet red in colour with medium-deep intensity. The nose shows aromas of bright red fruit, forest floor and dust. Good balance; crisp with medium body. The flavours follow the nose. A medium, drying finish. You should try this wine, which is good, if for no other reason than to be familiar with Sicily’s indigenous Nerello Mascalese grape.

2013 Chardonnay (Marcus Ansem)

Daydreamer

Penticton, BC

$29.90

Lemon yellow in colour with medium intensity. The nose shows well-integrated oak and fruit and aromas of citrus, butterscotch and toast. Well structured with good structure. Orange peel and grapefruit on the palate. The finish is long with flavours intensifying. Very good BC chardonnay.

2013 Faux Pas Rosé

Stoneboat

Oliver, BC

This delicious rosé is a unique blend of pinot noir and pinotage. Candy apple red with medium intensity. The nose is integrated with aromas of strawberry rhubarb, cherry and hints of watermelon. The balance is very good, clean and crisp with good body. The flavours follow the nose. A medium-long dry finish. Perfect summer time wine, great for the patio and perfect to pair with many foods from BBQ chicken to salmon and charcuterie picnics.
