It’s been 30 years since the Universal Gospel Choir (UGC) first stepped out on stage under the direction of Peter O’Loughlin. Now three decades later the acclaimed and crowd-wowing choir will be celebrating its history with two exuberant concerts titled, “Shed a Little Light” – Universal Gospel Choir 30 Years of Song.
This special concert will also see performances by acclaimed soloists, Vancouver’s funk & soul dynamo Dawn Pemberton, and contemporary jazz artist Leora Cashe.
It wouldn’t be an anniversary concert without bringing back so many UGC alumni who will be performing on stage with the choir on two songs: “Wings of a Dove” and “I Feel Your Spirit”.
“I am honoured to be the current Music Director of the Universal Gospel Choir and to continue the legacy that this choir is known for,” says Lonnie Delisle, who has been with the choir since 2013. “Through 30 years of celebrating music from many cultures and faiths, this choir has raised the roof over and over again. We are thrilled to have so many UGC members join us on these special anniversary concerts.”
UGC was established in 1985 with the goal to celebrate the music, joy and common ground shared by spiritual traditions around the world. Now 30 years later the Universal Gospel Choir continues to reach into many communities through the avenue of song.
Says Delisle, ”I’m continually struck with how special this choir is. Not only are they established singers but they give back to the communities in which they live in such a tangible way. This concert is going to be unforgettable not only because it’s our 30th year anniversary but we have planned and been practicing an incredible lineup of songs that will not only touch hearts but make you want to get up, clap, and dance in the aisles. And what can be better than that?!”
