Limitless Laughs Abound in Western World

Limitless Laughs Abound in Western World

Vancouver TheatreSports™ League’s (VTSL) improvisers will have plenty of opportunity to demonstrate their lightning fast wit as they play the ‘Hosts’ to audience ‘Guests’ in Western World opening April 6 at The Improv Centre on Granville Island. Inspired by the popular HBO series Westworld, this improvised parody relies on audience suggestions to set the scenes and drive the action.

Each night features a totally new ‘episode’ under the watchful eye and guiding mind of Robert (sometimes Roberta) Ford. Guests begin their Western World adventure with an orientation. “Who are these hosts? Where do they come from? What roles do they play? Where is Western World?” are typical of the many questions that only VTSL’s esteemed Guests can answer. Throughout the first half, Guests help craft the story-line that becomes the basis for the second half of the show. In this artificial world of improvised comedy anything can, and will, happen.

As in any western movie, the Guests will encounter stock scenarios and characters such as the villainous ‘Man in the Black Hat’ or perhaps a shootout at the corral. If things get too out of hand, Ford can always step in with “Stop all motor functions” and hit the reset button. In VTSL’s Western World, quick-thinking improviser ‘androids’ can instantly alter any situation.

Even if you have never seen Westworld, Western World will be filled with enough western movie clichés and laugh-inducing action to ensure maximum hilarity for all Guests.

This is one showdown you won’t want to miss. In fact, you may want to ‘replay’ your attendance as no two episodes can ever be the same.

Join VTSL for an evening of ‘laughs without limits’ Thursday through Saturday evenings at 7:30 pm from April 6 through May 13 at VTSL’s home, The Improv Centre on Granville Island. Tickets on sale now.
