The Improviser Strikes Back in Improv Wars – The Laugh Jedi

A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away… there’s still no affordable housing in Lotus Land of the West, tourists continue to flock to the small island in False Creek, the Evil Emperor plots his return and the improvisers strike back. Episode X.

Vancouver TheatreSports™ League (VTSL) takes you to a universe that exists outside of normal time and space – where unlikely characters co-exist in Improv Wars – The Laugh Jedi starting October 5 at The Improv Centre on Granville Island.

Hosted by a mysterious hooded figure (spoilers not allowed), the players and the audience search for an individual of unique abilities – one with the power to cloud people’s minds, to slip into any role, to make intuitive connections at lightning speed – the Laugh Jedi.

Drawing on the rich characters, locations, and themes of the Star Wars films, VTSL’s improvised parody highlights the parallels between the skills of an improviser and those of a Jedi to determine who is truly Master of the Farce. The show recreates the journey of excitement and wonder that audience members experienced when they first saw the films and infuses it with the element of comedy. To paraphrase Yoda – “Laugh. Or do not. There is no titter.”

As in all VTSL shows, the plot, characters and action are co-developed with the audience – utilizing their suggestions to drive the action and create on-the-spot, unscripted, theatrically-infused comedy. Being an improv show means that no two performances can ever be the same.

Improv Wars – The Laugh Jedi runs every Thursday through Saturday evening at 7:30 pm from October 5 through November 18. All shows take place at VTSL’s home theatre, The Improv Centre on Granville Island. Tickets start from as low as $10.75. Show information and tickets for all VTSL productions can be found at vtsl.com.

May the farce be with you.
