Designer shoes meet custom tea cocktails at fundraiser for Centre A,
Vancouver International Centre for Contemporary Asian Art
This Fall, Centre A is once again hosting a Shoe Party in partnership with John Fluevog Shoes to celebrate and increase public access to contemporary Asian art in Vancouver. More than 100 people are expected to attend the Shoe Party at John Fluevog Shoes’ Gastown location beginning at 7pm on Wednesday, November 28.
Supporting the event this year are artisan distiller James Lester, co-founder of Sons of Vancouver Distillery, and Tea Master Olivia Cheung, second-generation owner and operator of Treasure Green Tea Company in Chinatown. James and Olivia have joined forces to create two signature tea cocktails exclusively for this event. While they are keeping the recipes a “trade secret,” James and Olivia have revealed that one will be a playful union of Oolong and Amaretto, while the other will spotlight the warm earthy tones of pu’er tea. Award winning craft brews from Faculty Brewing will also make an appearance at the event, and Chinatown regulars will recognize homestyle favourites from New Town Bakery, including spring rolls and sesame balls.
All proceeds from ticket and cash bar sales, and 50% of shoe sales at the event will go towards Centre A’s 2019 programming and the completion of a new multi-purpose, multi-gallery facility. Currently closed for winter renovations, the gallery will reopen in February 2019 with a landmark exhibition featuring new works by renowned Hong Kong artist, Samson Young.
WHO: Centre A is hosting the Shoe Party in partnership with John Fluevog Shoes, with generous support from local businesses, including: Sons of Vancouver Distillery, Treasure Green Tea Company, Faculty Brewing, and Uno Digital.
WHY: The Centre A Shoe Party was created in 2017 as a way to bring together the local arts community, as well as local artisans and businesses who are committed to supporting a thriving cultural ecosystem in Vancouver at a time when access to space and loss of historical cultural spaces is increasingly becoming a concern.
“The Shoe Party emphasizes the local and the artisanal, because as a public art gallery situated in the heart of Vancouver’s historical Chinatown, Centre A is not only committed to creating space for contemporary Asian art,” says Interim Executive Director Yun-Jou Chang, “but to fostering community and deepening dialogue about urgent local concerns through the arts.”
