Old Surrey Restaurant – a Classic for any Occasion

For anyone looking for a traditional, elegant and classic restaurant the Old  Surrey Restaurant should be on your list of favourites. Old Surrey Restaurant does “white table cloth” classic dining that will impress and delight you.

We especially love the cozy feel of the room which is separated into dining spaces that are intimate and inviting. Old Surrey Restaurant describes itself as a “nostalgic” dining experience and it does not disappoint. We recently enjoyed an exceptional dinner in the Lounge dining room that works well for a family dining experience or a larger group.

CHEF’S APPETIZER

We would be remiss if we didn’t mention the “house wines” which are specially bottled for Old Surrey Restaurant. Both the 2016 Semillon Sauvignon Blanc and the 2013 Merlot paired perfectly with the dishes.

Service is impeccable. Our server was attentive without that awful hovering you sometimes experience at a high end restaurant. We enjoyed their table service which is always quite special and if you happen to be on a first date is kind of impressive.

No doubt there have been many proposals, birth announcements and anniversaries celebrated at Old Surrey Restaurant. It really is one of the most romantic places we’ve been to lately. We especially love the library dining room and think it would be perfect for all those special moments.

OUR STORY

IT ALL STARTED WITH A CHEF FROM FRANCE

Nestled in the heart of Surrey, the Old Surrey Restaurant is the culinary life force of fine dining this side of the Fraser.

The Old Surrey Restaurant, founded in 1975 by Spain native Valentine Aguirre, serves up fresh, inspired dishes with local ingredients including lamb and veal from the family’s Chilliwack farm.

From the complimentary fresh baguette and amuse bouche right through to the Caesar Salad or flambeed Crepes Suzette, prepared tableside, your classically French dining experience will be a night to remember.

The Aguirre’s have created a standard of excellence, not only in the kitchen but also in their service, which combines the perfect blend of sophistication and comfort.

TWO GENERATIONS OF AGUIRRE’S WORKING SIDE BY SIDE

Since 2007 the Old Surrey has been in the capable hands of Aguirre’s youngest son Philip, who spent a year in France mastering his culinary skill and perfecting the traditional recipes that never fail to impress.

The familiar Newton house, white with green gables, has been a part of Surrey’s heritage since 1918, when pioneer Lew Jack, a local grocer, built the residence on an old logging camp for his growing family.

Decades later and the library and lounge of the former Jack home are just two of the unique dining rooms that make every meal at the Old Surrey a special event.

Then and always the Old Surrey is an essential part of Surrey’s landscape – historically, physically, socially.

I received my  dinner complimentary in order to facilitate my review. All opinions are my own.
