Wentworth Hospitality Welcomes New Executive Chef Jonathan Chovancek

Acclaimed local chef to lead food programs at two renowned Vancouver restaurants

Wentworth Hospitality Group (Homer Street Cafe & Bar and Tableau Bar Bistro) is pleased to announce the appointment of Executive Chef, Jonathan Chovancek.

Chovancek is known across B.C. and Canada for his leadership, creativity and ethical, ingredient-driven concepts, having spearheaded such eminent locales as Cafe Medina, UVA Wine & Cocktail Bar, Culinary Capers Catering, Sooke Harbour House, Aerie Resort and Zambri’s. Chovancek also boasts experience leading the Canadian culinary teams at the 2006 Winter Olympic Games in Torino, Italy and the 2008 Summer Olympic Games in Beijing, China. His Olympic journey continued onto home turf during the 2010 Winter Olympic Games in Vancouver and Whistler, B.C., where he cooked for close to 60,000 people at more than 575 different events.

In 2016, Chovancek went on sabbatical to promote his co-owned brand, Bittered Sling, a retail line of high-quality cocktail and culinary bitters. After two successful years travelling the world’s cocktail circuit, he felt compelled to get back into the kitchen — perfect timing to lead the Wentworth team.

“I’m honoured and ecstatic to be taking the helm of two of Vancouver’s most iconic rooms: Homer Street Cafe & Bar and Tableau Bar Bistro,” Chovancek says. “I love working with big teams, multitrack concepts and meeting the guests. I really look forward to bringing my culinary personality, spice and joy to these kitchens!”

Homer Street Cafe’s revamped, daily lunch, happy hour, brunch, and dinner menus are now available. Shepherded by Chovancek and executed by newly appointed Chef de Cuisine Jean-Romain Bertin, guests can expect to see seasonally specific dishes in Chovancek’s signature style, with current offerings such as Rigatoni with wild and cultivated mushrooms; Seared Scallops with ribollita gratin, arugula and savoury clam vinaigrette; and a strong, rotating lunch sandwich feature on the Daily Fresh Sheet. New Happy Hour dishes are also being offered, including a Chicken Harissa Burger, Smoked Cheddar Croquettes and much more.

Tableau Bar Bistro’s re-vamped lunch and dinner menu is set to launch in February 2019.
