Immerse Yourself In A Sea Of Lights At The Vancouver Aquarium

Dive into the holiday spirit at the Vancouver Aquarium®, an Ocean Wise® initiative, from Friday, Nov. 23 to Sunday, Jan. 6. This festive season, immerse yourself in a new illuminating and  interactive  experience – Bubbles, by Tangible – and delight in Scuba Claus visits, magical aquatic displays, and special seasonal activities. It’s a blue Christmas, in the very best way, and fun for the whole family!

Explore the sensations of the underwater world in Bubbles, by Tangible. Get playful as you surround yourself with bobbing bubbles, glimmering lights, and soothing sounds of the deep blue and let your imagination take you on a wondrous ocean dive in the Underwater Dolphin Gallery. Bubbles is the newest creation by the award-winning Vancouver-based design firm Tangible who, since 2006, has been creating public artworks and interactive light installations for audiences around the world. Canadian-born composer Adam Lastiwka created the soundscape for the installation.

Feel the upswell of the holiday spirit as you watch everyone’s favourite festive guest – Scuba Claus – take the plunge in the Strait of Georgia habitat. See Scuba Claus don his flippers and dive with the colourful cold-water creatures at 12:30 p.m. daily until Dec. 24.

Enjoy the wave of childlike wonder as you watch Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in the 4-D theatre. Get swept away as cool wind pinches your cheeks and snow falls all around while you watch Rudolph’s epic adventure comes alive with wondrous sights, sounds and sensations. There are frequent showings throughout the day – every hour on weekdays, every half hour on weekends starting at 11:15 a.m. daily.

Find joy in the much-loved holiday features at the Vancouver Aquarium. Marvel at the most ‘shocking’ holiday display while standing in the glow of the Electric eel-powered Christmas tree in the Teck Connections Gallery and while learning more during the eel-ectrifying program 11:30 a.m. daily. Delight in the magic of the season as you watch the enchanting jelly snow globe in the Tropics Gallery. And feel the love as you sneak a kiss under the charming mistle-toads hanging by the Frogs Forever? Gallery. Also back again is the marine debris tree created by Tofino-based artist Pete Clarkson, made entirely of items collected from shorelines on the west coast of Vancouver Island. Festive décor adorns the Aquarium’s many galleries, immersing guests in a holiday experience while exploring the Arctic to the Amazon and everywhere in between.

Make a splash this holiday season with ocean-friendly gifts from Ocean Wise. Making sustainable choices is easy at the Vancouver Aquarium’s Gift Shop where you can purchase presents that support the conservation of marine life, reduce single-use plastic consumption and ocean plastic pollution, and encourage sustainable seafood harvesting practices.
