Local music label has turned an ordinary piano into an EDM concert on wheels for Vancouverites!

Vancouver-based music label Monstercat just launched a fun new video showcasing Vancouver in all its glory. They made a one-of-a-kind street piano that plays electronic music and toured it around the city for Vancouverites to discover. The piano keys let the public loop samples and remix the new single from one of Canada’s top electronic artists, Conro.

Monstercat gutted an old upright piano and redesigned it to play different loops and samples from one of Conro’s newest tracks. The piano was dropped off in different hot spots around Vancouver, from Stanley Park and English Bay to Creekside Park near Science World, over two days where Monstercat filmed people’s reactions to the piano.

The custom creation looks like an ordinary piano, but was retrofitted with a synthesizer and speakers to let the public create their own looping tracks of one of Canada’s top Canadian artists, Conro, new single “Heartbeat.”

To create the piano, Monstercat partnered with Roland Sound who worked one-on-one with the artist, Conro, to deconstruct his new single to be programmed into the electronic keyboard using Ableton Live software. Each note on the keyboard has been quantized to eliminate imprecision, allowing the general public to create sounds that flow seamlessly together, no matter their musical ability.

This unforgettable, immersive experience the piano offers is just one of the ways the label is paying tribute to the city it calls home this summer. Monstercat hopes their version of a street piano will encourage people to come and experience the joys of electronic music.
