Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir brings Christmas Gospel Concert “Good Tidings!” to historic Christ Church Cathedral

Canadian Soul/R&B/Jazz artist Katherine Penfold joins Good Noise in treasured annual Christmas concert series

Good Noise Vancouver Gospel Choir (Good Noise) is back for the Christmas season with their hit concert series “Good Tidings! A Good Noise Gospel Christmas.” The iconic Christ Church Cathedral sets the stage for these much-loved holiday concerts, Dec. 13 at 8 pm and Dec 14 at 3 pm and 8 pm. Joining Good Noise this year is the soulful and singularly talented West Coast favourite Katherine Penfold in a program of inspired gospel, soul and jazz arrangements of Christmas classics.

“Good Tidings is a concert series that brings the best spirit of the Christmas season to our audiences,” says Gail Suderman, Artistic Director of Good Noise. “Audience members have been contacting us months prior to December asking about tickets as these concerts sell out well in advance each year.” Speaking to the popularity of these concerts, Suderman adds, “It’s the unique combination of traditional and contemporary – incorporating the musical styles of Gospel, R&B, Soul and Jazz that infuse with ages-old Christmas favourites that quite literally permeate the hearts and souls of our audience members. It’s such a joyful experience with the audience up on their feet in response to the powerful energy of the message and music. Add to that the mighty sound of the 90 voices in Good Noise and our stellar Good Noise Gospel Band – we definitely get as excited about these concerts as our audience members do.”

Known for a concert energy that transports the listener into a jubilant and festive musical experience, director Gail Suderman has once again put together a collection of high-energy gospel songs combined with the smooth sounds of soul and jazz stylings. New arrangements of “Joy To The World” andGo Tell It On the Mountain”both with a Motown-gospel blend, Stevie Wonder’s “Someday at Christmas” and Sara Bareilles’ “Love Is Christmas” will be featured along with Christmas songs by gospel greats Kirk Franklin and Richard Smallwood.

Described as possessing “breathtaking musicianship….and a soaring lead voice that floats beautifully” (Evan Crandell, Earmilk), guest artist Katherine Penfold appears for the first time with Good Noise, bringing her powerful yet soulful vocal artistry along with her standout arrangements of Christmas classics from her 2017 release Keep Christmas With You. A winner of the prestigious GrooveFM singer songwriter competition, her musicianship is evident both in her performing and her song writing and arranging. With a well-established career taking off in an exciting new musical direction with the recent release of her debut full-length album, Sweetest Thing, Penfold, along with Good Noise, will provide a concert experience that will captivate and enthrall this year’s concert goers.

Accompanying Good Noise and Penfold for this much-anticipated concert series will be the dynamic Good Noise Gospel Band: Michael Kalanj (Hammond B3), Laurence Mollerup (bass), Elliot Polsky (drums), Ingrid Stitt (saxophones), and Artistic Director Gail Suderman (piano).
