Third Time Freaky: The Weirdos Holiday Market is Back!
Vancouver’s most unusual holiday gift event returns – bigger than ever

Having captured the imaginations of even the most jaded gift shoppers in 2017 and 2018, the Weirdos Holiday Market returns for its third edition… bigger, better, and more bizarre than ever! It takes place December 14 and 15 at The Hall at the Holy Trinity Ukrainian Orthodox Cathedral (154 E. 10th Avenue).

Curated by Rachel Zottenberg, owner of Betamax Gallery and popular local oddities shop This Monkey’s Gone to Heaven, the Weirdos Holiday Market features a wonderfully peculiar mix of artisan products geared to shoppers looking for gifts that are decidedly left-of-centre. This year, there will be 35 individual vendors, as well as a large cooperative table featuring products from 10 additional artisans. Shoppers will also find an array of covetable strangeness from the shelves of This Monkey’s Gone to Heaven.

Vendors for 2019 include:

Ultraviolet Oddities: Deconstructed plastic dolls become recycled conversation pieces for your body and home, including wacky planters for a variety of succulents and cacti.

Mush Appreciated: Beautiful, educational, and strange jewelry created from real forest-foraged fungi.

Lydia K: Pysanky: Ukrainian Easter eggs (real, hand-decorated eggshells) made by the Vancouver-based tattoo artist and crafter.

The Poplar Studio Pottery: Out of this world yet functional sculptural pieces and accessories. Look for tentacles, robots, crows, and a dash of sauciness!

Sugarfayce: Mystical multi-medium altar pieces, décor, and jewelry featuring gemstones and minerals.

Dirt Spindle: Unusual but totally usable pottery pieces that have been fused into the shapes of human mouths, nipples, feet, and hands.

Wicked Bath and Body Products: Handcrafted products — including “Perfectly Wicked Villain Soaps” (artisan soaps inspired by infamous villains) — made from nourishing ingredients.

One of Vancouver’s most famous weirdos, Jaik Puppyteeth, will return with his cynical and hilarious prints and T-shirts that make people laugh while also making them uncomfortable encouraging people to question stereotypes and the boundaries of relationships. This year look for Jaik’s “Photos with Santa” installation and take home your very own weird Santa photo.

Be sure to expect plenty of entertainment to accompany your shopping, including Tarot card readings, sword-swallowing, drag queens, and more.

Hungry? The team from Rumpus Room restaurant will roll out a hot-dog buffet like no other. Along with meat and veggie hot dogs, look for a crazy toppings bar, including pretzels, chips, banana peppers, fried jalapenos, and more. There will also be seasonal drinks on offer from Parallel 49 Brewing Company, along with more adult and kid-friendly beverage options.
