Masayoshi Reopening June 20 with #58 Spot on Canada’s 100 Best

Highly Acclaimed Masayoshi Resumes Dine-in Service Saturday, June 20

Perseverance, dedication and pride abound as the journey continues for Masayoshi.

Masayoshi lands 58 on Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants 2020 as it prepares to reopen for dine-in service. The intimate omakase restaurant will reopen Saturday, June 20. Diners can expect an elevated nigiri omakase experience that’s perfectly paired to the season. 2020 marks the fourth consecutive year Masayoshi has placed on Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants list, an amazing accomplishment for a restaurant that opened in 2015 as Chef Masayoshi Baba’s first solo project.

In late March, Masayoshi shifted to a takeaway menu and executed it with the same dedication to perfection fans have come to expect from his nigiri omakase experience. This dedication meant long nights of preparation, planning and plenty of uncertainty. Those that dined on the dishes of Masayoshi’s takeaway menu experienced a new side of chef and discovered flavours rarely seen in Vancouver. The heartfelt and highly popular menu featured items inspired by rural Japan, and home cooking chef grew up with. It wasn’t just takeout; it was an experience to take home – every mouthful an authentic Japanese experience.

Many takeaway items tended to sell out within minutes and became coveted culinary trophies for Vancouver gourmands. For Masayoshi, takeaway was an adventure, and like all great adventures, it’s who joins you along the way that makes it most memorable. “I can’t believe all the support, it means so much, we can’t wait to welcome everyone back” shares Masayoshi. Due to limited operational space, the takeaway menu will no longer be available as dine-in service resumes.

The highly sought-after seats at the eatery have been reduced to adhere to health protocols. There will be two seatings 6:00pm and 8:00pm, Tuesday to Saturday. Reservations for Saturday, June 20, can be made by calling the restaurant at 604-428-6272. All future reservations must be made online and prepaid via Tock; this system will be active early next week. Masayoshi will be offering a daily omakase experience for $130. Guests will have the opportunity to purchase alcohol at the restaurant via a virtual menu. Reservations can be secured at 604-428-6272.

About Masayoshi

Known for its elevated omakases—traditional Japanese meals that create one-of-a-kind dining experiences by leaving ordering up to the chef—Masayoshi is a high-end sushi destination in Vancouver’s burgeoning Fraserhood. Launched in 2015 by seasoned sushi chef Masayoshi Baba, who honed his skills at the legendary Tojo’s Restaurant for over a decade, the intimate, 24-seat room presents Vancouverites with a fresh take on Japanese cuisine by combining time-honoured culinary techniques with seasonal ingredients, elegant plating, and creative flavour pairings. Chef Masayoshi’s techniques are based on Japanese cooking, but he explores methods from other cultures’ to best derive the umami from every ingredient. Masayoshi was recently voted as one of the top sushi restaurants in Vancouver’s Golden Plates Awards presented by The Georgia Straight. The restaurant also earned a spot on Canada’s 100 Best Restaurants list in 2019 and has been featured on 50 Best Discovery, a list of approved establishments curated by industry experts. www.masayoshi.ca
