Wine and Romance go hand in hand with Martin’s Lane

A SEA OF LOVE

Wine and romance naturally go hand in hand. My favourite part about Valentine’s Day is preparing a home cooked meal and finding the perfect wine to pair with it. This year, my dinner will start off with a classic pairing – Riesling and oysters on the half shell.

Like wine, oysters are often a reflection of their environment. They spend their life filtering ocean water, so their terroir – called ‘merroir’ – is affected by the minerals, salt, and plankton that make up their surroundings.

For our pairing, we sourced Black Pearl oysters from a local seafood market, Codfather’s, in Kelowna. We found our Simes Vineyard Riesling to be a wonderful contrast to the oysters, with the bright acidity of the Riesling cleansing your palate for the next oyster!

For my main course – a Pinot Noir paired with a recipe given to me from our one of our favourite local restaurants. We are always thrilled to hear from you, if you have any questions about the wines or the pairings, please do not hesitate to reach out.
