Science World’s Extravagant Evenings for Teens (SWEET) on April 14th Explores the Science of Food – FREE
13-18-year-old teens will have the opportunity to explore Science World and discover the Science of Food, led by high school volunteers who are a part of Science World’s Teen Advisory Group
Let’s cut to the cheese – food is something that we all love and enjoy, but what really goes into our relationship with food? Where does our food come from? Why do we eat what we eat? What else can we do with food and its bi-products? These are all the exciting questions that teens will get to explore on April 14th at Science World during their free SWEET (Science World’s Extravagant Evening for Teens) event. SWEET events provide teens with a welcoming space to connect with peers who share similar interests and passions, engage in fun activities, and learn about the exciting world of STEAM!
On April 14th, attendees will enjoy an interactive panel discussion on The Future of Food in a Thriving, Sustainable Future. This panel features experts from culinary, agriculture, and sustainable eating industries that will show teens what they can do for the future of food in a thriving, sustainable future. Participating organizations include SFU Faculty of Science which will show ‘chemistry in the kitchen’, HoneyBee Centre will present a ‘honey tasting station’, UBC Faculty of Land and Food Systems will share ‘diversity of diets within diverse cultures and the science behind plant protein pairings’ and many more. This creates the opportunity for teens to visit and interact with various groups about the importance of BC’s food ecosystem.
