Innovation on the Canadian sparkling wine market
Premium range extension: Henkell Crémant de Loire AOC Brut
The most exported sparkling wine brand from Germany, Henkell, will be revealing a new premium product in Canada in January 2023: Henkell Crémant de Loire AOC Brut.
Premiumisation trend in the sparkling wine category
Overall, a trend for premiumisation is visible in the Canadian market. Consumers value high quality products and their origin and are willing to pay more for great quality and superior taste. The price categories Masstige ($15-$25) and Luxury ($25+) are growing by +6% respectively +12% in value on last rolling 13 months (Data: May 2022). As the second largest sparkling wine brand in Canada with a high brand awareness level across sparkling wine consumers, Henkell is showing a positive development and growing.
Crémant: A category that is growing strongly
Growing strongly, the Crémant category increased by +17% from 2020 to 2021 globally and shows an even stronger development in the long-term (+34% since 2017). With a 38% share of market, Crémant de Loire is the Number One AOP in the export market. The category and AOP is strictly protected and also limited to a volume of 20 Million bottles annually.1 The Crémant’s development is visible with +13% (June 2021 until May 2022) in volume and +15% (June 2021 until May 2022) in value.
Unique taste experience
The Henkell Crémant’s grapes are hand-harvested and the juices are selected to keep the best grape juices. The first fermentation took place in stainless steel tanks with temperature control. After this short ageing on lees, the second fermentation took place in bottles for about three years: Natural cellars where the temperature remains at 12-13°C naturally provided the optimal environment for that process. Henkell Crémant de Loire AOC Brut has a light gold colour, with a delicate fruity note of ripe peach, brioche and hazelnut. The juicy, full-bodied and persistant tasting notes deliver a very distinctive taste profile.
High-quality bottle design
CAN: The Henkell Crémant impresses not only by its taste, but also by its high-quality design: The brand’s insignia, the typical Henkell Red Ribbon, is included on the bottleneck as well as on the clean front label. The front label‘s form is based on the coat of arms of the Bourbons: Here, the connection to the French roots of Henkell becomes visible.
Paying tribute to Henkell’s roots
By launching a product in the fast-growing product segment of Crémant de Loire the Henkell brand is paying tribute to its French roots. Founder Adam Henkell learned the fine art of sparkling wine production in France and had his own winery in the French town of Reims. The international distribution of a Henkell Crémant will enable Henkell to build further on its position as an exceptionally elegant, classic sparkling wine brand.
