“In this series I will be reviewing wines shared with friends”
From time to time I am the fortunate recipient of wines sent to me for review. It is especially nice to share these wines with friends. Not only does it make for lively conversation, and often diverse opinions, but it also makes for a very enjoyable occasion. So thanks to my wine loving friends who join me from time to time for a glass of wine.
“The road to a friend’s house is never long.” This is especially true when the purpose of the visit is to discover the secrets of a new wine, enjoy a delicious meal prepared by our friends and hosts for the evening. So, along with good food and good company, we enjoyed good wine.
We shared this wine while sitting outside on our friends’ patio. The evening was comfortably warm and relaxing, the perfect setting for this delicate white wine. Paired with a few light snacks, my favourite being my good friend’s specialty – salted cashews with rosemary. Later we would enjoy the Colonna 1557 Roma Rosso DOC, read my review of the Roma Rosso here.
COLONNA 1557 FRASCATI SUPERIORE DOCG
This wine has a straw yellow color, the nose is fruity and fragrant. Fresh and savory, with a slight sour note on a pleasantly bitter background. Colonna 1557 Frascati Superiore DOCG pairs perfectly with appetizers, soups, white meat and fish.
Alc. vol: 12.5%
Trebbiano, Malvasia and Greco
Vinification: White vinification, alcoholic fermentation with temperature control in stainless steel tanks.
Maturation: Stainless steel tanks and then bottled.
Straw yellow color
Fresh and fruity bouquet with notes of pear and banana
Long and balanced flavour
Excellent as an aperitif, seafood appetizers, spicy first courses and white meats.
This was a delicate wine that was served before dinner and paired with snacks and cheese. A pleasant wine that was refreshing with light notes. The perfect prelude to the dinner and Colonna 1557 Roma Rosso DOC 2020 that followed.
A sine to be enjoyed with friends and lively conversation.
Flavours of tree fruits with some tropical notes that made the wine interesting. Light acidity with good body. A very pleasing wine.
