VANCOUVER FIREFIGHTER CHARITIES TEAM UP FOR A NEW YEAR OF SCHOOL
MEALS FOR KIDS PROGRAM
Glowbal Chefs, Firefighters Mark Fourth Year of Providing Healthy,
Nutritious Meals to Thousands of Kids in Secondary Schools

The program sees the culinary teams at GRG’s Glowbal, Coast, Italian Kitchen, Black + Blue, Riley’s and Five Sails prepare meals that are delivered by off-duty firefighters to twelve schools including Strathcona Elementary, Seymour Elementary, Britannia Secondary, Vancouver Technical Secondary, along others, via VFC’s Snacks For Kids program. The unique partnership has helped provide more than 23,000 meals to secondary school students since it was launched in the fall of 2021.
The costs of the individually packaged meals — which include Spaghetti and Meatballs, Oven-Roasted Chicken Thighs with French Onion-Style Sauce, Chicken Salad with Herbs, and Beef Bourguignon — are absorbed by Glowbal Restaurant Group.
“Our partnership with VFC has been extremely rewarding and we are proud to continue lending a hand through the School Meals for Kids program,” says Glowbal Restaurant Group CEO Emad Yacoub. “It’s another opportunity for our Glowbal family to reaffirm our commitment to vital causes in the community and provide a helping hand to students and families across the city.”
Over the past 20 years, GRG has served more than 165,000 meals to those in need throughout the local community while championing charitable causes that include Union Gospel Mission, A Loving Spoonful, Backpack Buddies, Covenant House Vancouver, the Greater Vancouver Food Bank, Canuck Place Children’s Hospice, Ronald McDonald House, St. Paul’s Hospital, and many more.
Glowbal had already been a supporter of Snacks For Kids, providing meals for children in schools and after-school programs prior to joining forces on the School Meals For Kids initiative. Founded in 2013 in partnership with the Vancouver School Board, Snacks For Kids is a volunteer-led program supported entirely through Vancouver firefighter payroll donations and fundraising events that provides nutritious non-perishable snacks, fresh food and take-home groceries to students across the city.
“We’re so grateful to the whole team at Glowbal Restaurant Group for their continued generosity and support of our efforts to ensure kids across the city don’t have to go through the school day with an empty stomach,” says VFC Executive Director Eric Himmelman. “It’s through the support of companies like Glowbal and our volunteer teams that we’re able to provide relief to people who need it the most.”
