Vancouver Opera’s La Bohème
Set to Shatter Box Office Records
Renowned 66-Year-Old Company on Pace
for Historic Achievement
Vancouver Opera proudly announces that its 2025-2026 season-closing production of Puccini’s La Bohème is tracking to become the highest-grossing opera in the company’s illustrious 66-year history, surpassing the record formerly held by the 2023-2024 season production of Carmen.
One of opera’s most cherished and widely-popular works, La Bohème’s passion, heartbreak, and soaring melodies will close the season on an unforgettable high note, both artistically and at the box office. With this blockbuster season finale, Vancouver Opera reaffirms its commitment to delivering exceptional, grand-scale opera experiences to diverse audiences.
Tom Wright, General Director of Vancouver Opera, expressed his elation at the public response to the production, stating, “we’re thrilled to see La Bohème’s enduring popularity reflected in this overwhelming audience support. We’ve had an extraordinary season at Vancouver Opera, made even more poignant by this box office announcement. Like us, audiences must be excited to welcome back acclaimed Maestro Jonathan Darlington as he leads one of the most powerful experiences in all of opera.”
Box office numbers like what the company is seeing for La Bohéme are a testament to the work’s enduring appeal, as well as the surging interest in opera from Vancouver audiences. Long-time aficionados and first-time operagoers alike are clearly excited to celebrate the enduring legacy of one of opera’s most cherished works.
Adds Wright, “the incredible success of this Brenna Corner-directed production reflects the dedication and passion of our talented artists, staff, and supporters. Combined with the support of Vancouver’s vibrant arts community, this production is set to be a defining triumph in our company’s long history.”
