“Vancouver Opera is thrilled to present Rossini’s comic masterpiece under the direction of Ashlie Corcoran,” said Tom Wright, Vancouver Opera Interim General Director. “This is the 9th time Vancouver Opera has mounted a main-stage production of The Barber of Seville and we couldn’t think of a better production to chase away the February blues than with Rossini’s greatest masterpiece of comedy and music.”
Vancouver Opera’s 2019/2020 season is kicking off with a sumptuous new production of Giuseppe Verdi’s timeless romantic tragedy, La Traviata. In an unprecedented collaboration, Vancouver Opera joins four other Canadian opera companies as they co-present this opera reaching more opera patrons than ever before.
“Never has there been a more exciting time for Vancouver Opera as we prepare to welcome traditional and new work to our stages with two opera classics and a West Coast premiere,” said Kim Gaynor, Vancouver Opera General Director.
Prepare to be dazzled by the next generation of Canadian opera stars at VOX, a prestigious new vocal competition taking place at Vancouver’s Queen Elizabeth Theatre on April 26. The event, which takes place on the eve of opening day of the third Vancouver Opera Festival (April 27 to May 5), is set to showcase the cream of Canada’s new operatic talent.
For the third edition of its annual Festival presented by BMO, Vancouver Opera has curated nine days of voice, music, theatre and visual arts for the curious of all ages.

Arguably one of the most well known operas of our time, the Vancouver Opera is staging their 12th production of La Bohème since they first performed it in 1960. The last time the bohemian arias were sung by the VO was in 2008, a very melodramatic interpretation indeed, and so being able to attend this new staging felt much more authentic and was a real treat.
