Little Folks Village at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival
where Children under 12 are Free

The Vancouver Folk Music Festival announces the lineup for the Little Folks Village, a place for children and families during the festival in ʔəy̓alməxʷ / Iy̓ál̓mexw Jericho Beach Park. Open Friday, July 17 3pm to 5pm and Saturday, July 18 & Sunday, July 19 from 10am to 5pm, kids of all ages are invited to explore this vibrant, creative and playful space. Come and enjoy the Festival weekend where imagination runs wild and families come together through music, movement, and wonder.

“We are thrilled to have our Little Folks Village back at the Vancouver Folk Music Festival,” said Fiona Black, Artistic Director of the Vancouver Folk Music Festival. “The best part about this village is that children 12 under are free when accompanied by an adult. We believe that the love of music begins at an early age, and we also recognize the pressure families are under. For years we have been offering this perk to families and are pleased to continue to do it this year. There’s no better place to build family memories than here.”

Throughout the weekend, little ones can unleash their creativity with a wide array of fun and engaging materials at the Creation Station where kids of all ages can create cool creatures and take-home art. Visit the expanded water play zone that includes water toys, bubbles and wands. Red Bird will be roving the site throughout the Festival weekend – keep your eyes out for the big red bird.

On Saturday, families can enjoy stilt performances and juggling with Redbird & Friends, interactive storytelling and costume parades with the magical Nylon Zoo.Indigenous storytelling sure to delight audiences of all ages by the beloved Haida storyteller Kung Jaadee. They’re joined by the Saint James Music Academy with their marimba ensemble performance and a special performance by students from the Sarah McLachlan School of Music.

Sunday keeps the magic going with Redbird & Friends returning for more fun with their high-flying stilt-walking and Nylon Zoo with storytelling inside the inflatable dragon, followed by an energetic costume parade. New this year are Compagnie V’ni Dansi with traditional Métis and contemporary dance along with the Muevete Marimba Ensemble with a unique opportunity for the little folks to try the marimbas themselves after their performance.
