If you haven’t been to Parksville Uncorked “Swirl” wine tasting event of the Food and Wine Festival you are definitely missing out on a terrific event.
For wine lovers and foodies alike this is one event that never disappoints. This was the second year that I attended and I think it just gets better each year.
Last year the event “Untapped” was added. An evening of gourmet pub grub paired with an extensive selection of craft beers, ale and ciders. Well worth the reasonable cost and the effort it takes to get to Parksville on Vancouver Island.
Friday night the signature event of Parksville Uncorked “Swirl” offers an opportunity to taste over 100 British Columbia wines. The wineries vary each year and the selection is excellent. With the number of wineries on the uptake this is a good way to become acquainted with who’s who in the wine regions of the province. The other big component of Parksville Uncorked is the gourmet bites that accompany your wine tasting experience.
A joint venture of the Beach Club Resort and Tigh Na Mara Resort & Spa now in its 6th year. This event has surpassed all expectations and takes its rightful place at the top end of wine and food festivals in B.C. Prices are reasonable and both resorts offer very affordable accommodation and packages.
The weekend does not end with Thursday and Friday and many guests stay on for the choice of two wine dinners on Saturday night. Traditionally the Road 13 Wine Dinner is hosted by Tigh Na Mara with the Burrowing Owl Wine Dinner held at the Beach Club Resort. Both offer a taste experience of the highest order pairing courses with their wines and a bit of the history of each of the wineries presented by the winery owners.
An opportunity to enjoy locally sourced delicacies with BC wines in a tastefully casual setting. No attention to detail is missed and the service and presentation is first rate.
This year will be no exception and I look forward to Saturday nights dinner and wine pairings.
