The BC Association of Travel Writers is proud to announce the lineup of speakers for their 2014 Symposium, The Taste of Travel, on May 17th at the River Rock Casino Resort.

Our keynote speaker is Lauren Mowery, a wine, coffee, and tea writer from New York City who contributes to the Village Voice in a wine column called Unscrewed and a tea and coffee column called Filtered. She contributes to Wine & Spirits, Wine Enthusiast, Saveur, Fodors.com, and Palate Press and her blog, Chasing the Vine won a Wine Bloggers Award in 2013.
Our industry panel will feature:
Percy von Lipinski, an award winning reporter for CNN travel where he was known as the CNN Travel Guru. Percy also works with Universal Studios in Hollywood to scout new locations for upcoming movies, and he produces Electronic Press Kits (EPK´s) for some of the biggest names in Hollywood.
Jennifer Schell, a food and wine writer, columnist, and Editor of B.C. Food & Wine Trails Magazine. She is the author of The Butcher, The Baker, The Wine & Cheese Maker – An Okanagan Cookbook, winner of Gourmand World Cookbook Award for Best Local Cuisine Book, Canada.
Eric Pateman, the owner of Edible Canada on Granville Island, has worked in the hospitality industry for over two decades as a chef, hotel consultant, entrepreneur. He is the co-author of the BC Seasonal Cookbook, and recipient of the Mayor of Vancouver’s Art Award for Culinary Arts in 2013, one of Business in Vancouver’s Top 40 Under 40 Business People in 2007, and to Western Living Magazine’s list of the Top 40 Foodies Under 40 in Western Canada in 2008.
Sonu Purhar, international media relations agent for Tourism Vancouver, is a freelance writer and works with journalists from some of the world’s foremost publications to help them cover Vancouver. Sonu has presented at writing conferences in North America and the U.K., and was formerly assistant editor at a WestWorld magazine.
In a special session:
Craig Minielly, a Vancouver-based photographer, will demonstrate the best techniques to shooting food and wine. As a pioneer within the digital revolution, Craig is one of the influential forces in creating and developing workflow techniques and habits that are still being used by individuals, studios and corporations all over the globe. Craig will also curate and judge a photo contest of images that attendees will take of their lunch.
The day will close with a post-symposium tasting experience to introduce us to BC wine, beer and spirits producers.
The Taste of Travel is an all-day event at the River Rock Casino Resort in Richmond, BC on Saturday, May 17th from 11am to 6pm. The symposium includes lunch, snacks, prizes and the tasting.
Non members are invited for the early-bird at of $60 until April 15, and $70 until May 11.
