It was one of those perfect Vancouver evenings, late April and still warm outside. Good Wolfe owner Richard Goodine took advantage of the opportunity to start us outside on the comfortable patio.
We began our evening with a glass of bubbly, a Stoneboat Piano Brut, which paired perfectly with the Yaletown vibe of the patio.
As more guests arrived we headed inside Good Wolfe to settle into the comfy banquette seating. There were a mix of guests, some singles, couples and groups of friends. The room is spacious and comfy, in a way set-up to allow either privacy or a group. A large bar defines the rectangular space that ends with a seating area that lends itself to a long table format, when required, with a great backdrop of a blackboard wall hung with wine bottles.
We were treated to a four course dinner prepared by Chef Jason Vallee and paired with wines from single vineyard Finca Decero in Argentina. Of course what goes best with Argentinian wine is beef each course paired with a fabulous Decero red wine.
Starting off with beef carpaccio topped with slices of baby beets and frisee paired with a 2012 Decero Malbec. The pace of dinner was ideal leaving time for socializing as we relaxed between courses.
We followed with an absolutely delicious beef tortellini and a Decero Clasicos 2011 Cabernet Sauvignon, so good.
The highly anticipated main of ribeye did not disappoint, grilled to perfection served sliced with crisp, fresh asparagus and a smooth parsley aioli. For this course we enjoyed the Decero 2010 Petit Verdot of the Remolinos Vineyard. In a word superb.
Finishing with a mini baguette accompanied by a gooey bleu cheese and apple puree which was paired with the Decero 2011 Syrah.
The pace of the evening was perfect with time to enjoy and savour the great food and excellent wines.
Decero wines are available in private liquor stores.
Good Wolfe is located at 1034 Mainland Street in Yaletown.
