Local Restaurateurs Revitalize Kelowna Intersection

Two New Restaurants Open next to the Best Western Hotel

The corner of Highway 97 and Leckie next to the Best Western Hotel has two new eateries to serve locals and hotel guests.  An Italian restaurant and a revamped 97 Street Pub are the results of the efforts of Jason and Michelle Troll, the creative team that originally brought Twisted Tomato to Bernard Avenue in downtown Kelowna.

The Italian Table is a slice of Italy in Kelowna, serving up a ‘Nonna (Italian Grandmother) approved’ menu for the entire family.  Classic favourites, pizza, Spaghetti Bolognese and Fettucini Alfredo are on the menu paired with Okanagan Valley and Italian wines and a creative cocktail list.  Food can be ordered family-style for a full table feast or you can simply share a Classic Margherita pizza and a delicious bottle of wine.

Fleetwood Public House, named as a nod to the car dealerships that surround the location, is a vintage inspired bar focused on food, beer and music.  Comfortable and filled with musical nostalgia, this is the place to relax, listen to music and watch the game.  Continuing the music tradition of the space, you can hear live music every weekend and in a partnership arrangement with Live Nation and Molson Canadian, great music events from around the world can be streamed turning the venue into a concert space.  Served to the guests in recycled album covers, the Fleetwood menus have a creative twist on classic pub fare with Hubcap Nachos, Sirloin Steak and Ale Pie in a cast iron pan along with the traditional chicken wings and corn dogs.  The kitchen and the bar team have united to create beer and food features for every day of the week.

Since the fire last winter of their restaurant, Twisted Tomato, owners and operators, Jason and Michelle Troll have focused on not only rebuilding the popular Twisted Tomato for a spring 2015 opening, but growing their company, Twisted Tomato Group.  In addition to adding The Italian Table and Fleetwood Public House to their fold, award-winning mixologist Gerry Jobe has joined them as Director of Operations.   Jobe has created the beverage and cocktail lists for both The Italian Table and Fleetwood Public House with his usual tongue-in-cheek labels of Caesar Romero and Stalloni for The Italian Table and a Fleetwood Mile for Fleetwood Public House.  On the food side, Jason Leizert of the much-lauded charcuterie and cheese shop, Salted Brick, has worked closely with this dynamic group in designing and creating the menus for both spaces.  You can taste his input with the Roasted Brisket Sandwich at Fleetwood and the Salumi at The Italian Table.

Both Jobe and Leizert bring their areas of expertise to the Twisted Tomato Group and along with Jason and Michelle Troll, are helping to put these new eateries on the local food map.
