Beware of Stumbling Goats!
In Germany, Maibocks are traditionally consumed in the lusty month of May. This May, reach for the newest Maibock to hit the rocks from Penticton’s Cannery Brewing. Aptly named the Stumbling Goat, this dry-hopped Maibock, is the latest limited release beer in the Artisan Creations series from Cannery Brewing.
Ian Dyck, Craft Beer Maverick at Cannery Brewing explained, “Our new Stumbling Goat is a strong, dry-hopped Maibock. It is a full-bodied German-style lager created with classic German malts and noble hops. We launched this malt-forward beer at the Okanagan Fest-of-Ale and we received fantastic feedback from craft beer lovers. It is a full-flavoured lager with a surprising hop complexity that makes it a very interesting and drinkable beer.”
Dyck continued, “We launched a seasonal Maibock a couple of years ago and since then, people have asked us repeatedly to brew a new Maibock. We’re pretty stoked to launch this new dry-hopped Maibock now, as the weather is starting to heat up here in the Okanagan.” At 6.5% alc./vol., this strong Maibock has the drinkability and strength to make even the sturdiest goat stumble.
Like the other beers in Cannery Brewing’s Artisan Creations series, the Stumbling Goat label is an artistic creation designed to match the artistry of the beer. Dyck explained, “A ‘Bock’ is a male mountain goat and we wanted the goat image on the label to be strong and reflective of the complex characteristics of this beer. We were pleased to work with the very talented Okanagan-based artist and designer Myron Campbell (www.notsosimpleton.com). Myron is a Governor General’s Gold Medal award winner, a professor at the University of British Columbia: Okanagan Campus and a craft-beer lover! It was exciting to have Myron create this goat and design the label for this Artisan Creation.”
Cannery Brewing’s Stumbling Goat is a single batch release that will be available at private craft-beer focused liquor stores and restaurants throughout BC and at select liquor stores in Alberta until it is gone.
