BC SYRAH NAMED WINE OF THE YEAR

Le Vieux Pin Winery’s flagship wine: 2012 Équinoxe Syrah was just given the top spot on Icon Wines: ‘Top 20 Wines of the Year’ annual list. Making it the first Syrah in it’s price range to be named ‘Wine of the Year’. A very big accomplishment by the winery team.

“…also one of the rarest at only 334 cases produced, Le Vieux Pin’s 2012 Équinoxe Syrah could not be denied the top prize for 2015; well-earned recognition for its ability to proclaim to the wine glitterati “Yes, we can make world-class Syrah in BC!” – wrote Liam Carrier.

This Syrah is inspired by great Cote Rotie’s of the Northern Rhone: 3.5% Viognier was co-fermented with the Syrah, with extended aging in French Oak for 19 months before being bottled unfined. Although delicious to enjoy now, it will easily age well in the cellar for 10+ years. Just 334 cases were produced.

“A beast of a Syrah, yet, still feminine and floral in style. A true femme fatale with both mass and levity, opening with a gorgeous blend of black cherry, crushed violets, vanilla-mocha, white pepper, spicy plum sauce and sweet pipe tobacco aromas on the memorable nose. The intense, brooding palate follows with concentrated dark red fruit and smooth pepper flavours, effortless acidity and ripe, fine-grained tannins.” – 92-94 pts, Liam Carrier, IconWines.ca

Le Vieux Pin also produced two other Syrahs – the 2013 Syrah Cuvée Violette has sold out and a new vintage will be available in spring of 2016. And the 2012 and 2013 Syrah Cuvée Classique is limited but still available. Find out more about their wines on their website.
