#WineWedneday Wine Reviews by Sam Hauck aka The Wine Teacher
2012 Pinotage
Stoneboat
Oliver, BC
$24.90
Undoubtedly the best Pinotage I have tasted. Garnet red in colour with medium-deep intensity. A complex nose showing aromas of black fruit, earth, chocolate and spice. Very well balanced with good mouthfeel. The flavours echo the nose with a long, lingering finish.
2014 Bacchus (Reserve)
Chaberton
Langley, BC
$18.95
Pale straw in colour with a hint of gray. An appealing nose of stone fruit and citrus. Well balanced with good mouthfeel. Packed with juicy flavours of ripe peach and apricot. Tangerine peel lingers on the finish. This is what Bacchus is all about.
2014 Chardonnay
Little Farm
Cawston, BC
$29.90
This is a very small lot wine. Only 72 cases were made. Golden straw in colour with medium-light intensity. Apple and citrus aromas on the nose. Good balance. Clean and refreshing on the palate with flavours of lime and green apple followed by a medium finish. This is a wine that shows its terroir.
2014 Samantha Gamay
Okanagan Crush Pad
Summerland, BC
$22.90
This is third in a series made by Whistler sommelier Samantha Rahn. Garnet red in colour with medium intensity. The nose is layered with aromas of dark fruit, earth, forest floor and spice. Good balance with good mouthfeel. The flavours follow the nose with a medium-long finish. This is a lighter style red with good texture, just what I like in a BC Gamay.
2012 Rosé (Leon Millot)
Saxon Winery
Summerland, BC
$13.91
This unique Rosé is made from Leon Millot, a grape that most people in BC are not familiar with. It is French hybrid that is more commonly found along the eastern seaboard of Canada and the US as well as on Vancouver Island due to it’s earlier ripening. Cherry red in colour with medium intensity. Orange peel and red fruit aromas on the nose. Good balance with medium body. Red fruit dominates the palate followed by a medium-short finish.
