Oyama Named Best Deli AND Best Stall at Granville Island Market

Vancouver’s Oyama Sausage Co. is proud to announce that their business ranked at the top of two categories in the Westender newspaper’s 2016 Best of the City readers’ choice awards.  The company has been awarded first place (GOLD) in the categories of both Best Deli and Best Stall at Granville Island Market.

Thousands of votes sent a clear message that Oyama is at the top of its game.  The Granville Island favourite, which offers fresh sausages, handmade pâtés, and select cured meats, has earned accolades from Westender in the past: it received the Top Food Stall award in 2012, 2013 and 2014, but this year marks the first time Oyama has taken two categories.

Proprietor Christine Van Der Lieck says “John and I are very honoured that Oyama was chosen by the Westender voters.  Our staff deserves a lot of credit, as what we do is really a team effort.  The positive feedback is particularly meaningful because it comes from real people, our customers, who are concerned about quality and value.”

John and Christine wish to thank their staff, their customers, and everyone who voted in online poll.

About Oyama Sausage Co.:  John and Christine Van Der Lieck opened Oyama Sausage Co. in 2001.  Located in Granville Island’s Public Market, the shop carries a wide selection of fresh sausages and handmade pâtés, as well as cured salamis and hams.  John, whose ancestry includes five generations of Dutch and German charcuterie makers, has cultivated partnerships with local farmers and suppliers to ensure he works with only the best ingredients.  He experiments with fusions between traditional charcuterie (including recipes that have been in his family for generations) and international cuisine, drawing from the rich diversity of food cultures in Vancouver to create modern and exciting flavour combinations that reflect the multicultural mosaic of the city.
