Strumming for Stroke: A Fundraising Ukulele Concert Benefitting the Heart and Stroke Foundation

 

Vancouver’s First Lady and Duke of Uke, Ruby & Smith headline a ukulele fundraising concert benefitting the Heart and Stroke Foundation on Friday, June 17 at the Rio Theatre.

Strumming for Stroke promises a wonderful evening of live music, with door prizes, a silent auction, 50/50 Draw, health information, and more. The evening will feature performances by Ruby & Smith, along with Ruby’s Ukulele Orchestra, and international performer and founder of the Vancouver Ukulele Circle, Ralph Shaw. Ralph will also lead a ukulele play and sing-a-long at the end of the evening – and guests are encouraged to bring a ukulele if they have one. Please note this is an adult only (19+) licensed show with a bar and refreshments available for purchase.

“Every year an estimated 62,000 Canadians suffer a stroke; that’s one stroke every 9 minutes. Stroke is the third leading cause of death and the leading cause of adult disability in Canada,” says Joan Mann, Area Manager, Coastal Vancouver, Heart and Stroke Foundation, BC & Yukon. “With Strumming for Stroke, we are fundraising to create more survivors – supporting those who have survived strokes and the loved ones that support them.”

The Heart and Stroke Foundation is working hard to change these statistics and provide better treatment options and resources for stroke survivors. Recent examples include:

Strumming for Stroke takes place at the Rio Theatre (1660 East Broadway, Vancouver) on Friday, June 17. Doors open at 6:00 pm and the concert begins at 7:00 pm.
